Field Technician/Installer

Visionary Broadband seeks a motivated individual to join our team as an Entry-Level Field Technician/Installer. This full-time, hourly position is a great opportunity for someone interested in starting a long-term career in telecommunications. As part of the Installation/Field Service team at Visionary Broadband, a division of Visionary Communications, Inc., you will receive hands-on training, gain real-world technical experience, and learn how internet and voice services are installed and supported for residential and commercial customers.

Job Overview:

  • As an Entry-Level Field Technician/Installer, you will learn to install wireless and fiber internet and VoIP services at customer locations, including homes and businesses. Training will include basic router programming, equipment installation, mounting hardware, Cat 5 cabling, fiber splicing, fiber installation, safety practices, and customer communication. This role is designed for someone who enjoys hands-on work, problem solving, working outdoors, and building technical skills in the telecommunications field.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Represent Visionary Broadband in a professional manner while learning to perform wireless and fiber internet installations, repairs, removals, service calls, and related field work.
  • Participate in hands-on training with experienced team members to build skills in wireless and fiber internet, VoIP, cabling, equipment installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop foundational telecommunications knowledge, including how customer connections are installed, documented, tested, and maintained.
  • Must be able to physically lift up to 50 pounds and perform hands-on field work in a safe manner.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, is necessary
  • Bring integrity, reliability, curiosity, and a willingness to learn new technology and field processes.
  • Maintain professional behavior and proper communication with internal and external contacts, including co-workers, managers, and outside contractors/vendors.
  • Interact with customers over the phone and in person
  • Use company tools, mobile applications, and work order systems to document completed work; training will be provided.
  • Must have a valid driver license and be insurable to drive a company vehicle
  • Must be able handle and climb a ladder
  • Must be willing to travel within the region 40-60% of the time, overnight travel being up to 25% of the time (hotel rooms reserved through a company app and per-diem paid for overnight stays)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

This is an entry-level role. Prior telecommunications experience is helpful but not required. A qualified candidate should be dependable, safety-minded, comfortable working with customers, and excited to learn technical skills through on-the-job training.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to follow instructions and safety procedures.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn company systems, mobile applications, and technical tools used in the field.
  • Interest in technology, construction, customer service, field service, networking, wireless or fiber internet, or telecommunications.
  • Previous experience using hand tools, working outdoors, providing customer service, or completing hands-on projects is helpful but not required.
  • Flexibility to work outside of standard 8am-5pm hours and be willing to travel within your region (2-3 hours around your home base).
  • No telecommunications experience is required to apply; Visionary will provide training for the right candidate.

Physical Requirements:

95%+ / - of the time will be spent walking and standing in the field with various weather conditions, as well as occasional lifting and / or carrying and / or pushing / pulling of items less than 75lbs. Visual and audio acuity is essential to this position.
