Job description

Merit Electric is a national electrical contractor seeking a Fire Alarm Commissioning/Low Voltage Technician to perform installations, terminations, programming and testing of Fire Alarm, Voice/Data, Door Access, AOR, and PA systems for large retirement community projects nationwide.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ย 
โ€ข Installs, modifies, maintains, programs, and repairs fire alarm and door access panels.
ย โ€ข Installs all cabling, devices, and punch down of Voice/Data system.
ย โ€ข Test all systems and equipment, after installations or repairs are made, to ensure performance of system.
ย โ€ข Installs all NAC and SLC devices.
ย โ€ข Performing maintenance service calls at customer sites on security, fire, PA and various other systems.
ย โ€ข Install, diagnose, and repair/replace wiring, devices on both analog and digital control panels for fire alarm systems.
ย โ€ข Maintain and repair smoke and heat detectors, magnetic door holders, and fire alarm system components, including circuit cards, power supplies, software, copper and fiber optic systems platforms.
ย โ€ข Serve as a technical advisor on systems programming and configuration, as well as coordinate code requirements with local fire marshals, and other trades.
Knowledge & Skills
โ€ข All aspects of fire alarm hardware and software systems.
โ€ข NFPA codes and local codes.
โ€ข Possess knowledge of computer programming and technologies related to fire alarm, security and other low voltage systems.
โ€ข Basic understanding of other low voltage systems such as, door access, phone systems, voice/data cabling, public address.
โ€ข Communicate systems performance to customer.
โ€ข Oversee and ensure proper completion of work performed by team members, and train technicians and other employees on properย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  procedures.
โ€ข Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals and product manuals to properly program and verify new systems.
โ€ข Maintaining confidentiality of work related information and materials.
โ€ข Effective organization and planning skills.
โ€ข Ability to communicate in a concise and effective manner.
โ€ข Ability to understand and follow instructions precisely.
โ€ข Ability to work independently.
Physical Requirements
โ€ข Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and hear horn and/or warning devices at a distance of 30 yards.
โ€ข Perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, standing and walking significant distances.
โ€ข Visual ability (uncorrected or corrected) to observe and detect signs of dangerous obstacles at a distance of 30 yards and to verify writtenย  ย  information at a close range.
โ€ข Work from ladders and scaffolds at heights above 30 feet.
Experience, Education, and Licenses
โ€ข Four years related experience to include one year experience specifically working with fire alarm systems.
โ€ข Experience and knowledge in the implementation of smoke evac control systems and control panels.
โ€ข High School diploma or educational equivalent.
โ€ข Valid Driver's Licenseย 
โ€ข Installation, service, troubleshooting and programming numerous Fire Alarm Systems including: Silent Knight, Fire-Lite , Mircom, Potter,ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  Simplex, Notifier, and EST.
โ€ข NICET Certification preferred but not required.
โ€ข Proficient in Microsoft Office Software and strong PC skills.ย 
โ€ข High School Diploma or equivalent.
Other
Routine Travel is required. ย
