Dynamic Civil Solutions (DCS) is a leading civil engineering firm based in downtown Birmingham. We are growing and currently seeking a Full-Time, entry level Survey Technician/Instrument Person to join our team on site at our Birmingham, Alabama office. We offer competitive compensation* (BOE), plus the Benefits listed below.


 The Survey Technician / Instrument Person plays an essential role in supporting our survey crews in the field. This position works alongside experienced surveyors, assisting with daily field operations by watching for traffic hazards, clearing brush and pathways through wooded areas, carrying equipment, setting survey stakes, and performing other physically demanding tasks necessary to complete survey projects efficiently and safely. The Survey Technician will also assist with the operation, setup, care, and maintenance of survey instruments and equipment. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, detail-oriented, enjoys working outdoors in all types of weather and terrain, and is willing to perform the hands-on work that supports the success of the survey team. No two days are the same, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain experience and build a career in land surveying.

Key Responsibilities for the Survey Technician/Instrument Person:

Field Operations:

o Operates and maintains survey instruments and equipment, including total stations, GPS receivers, and data collectors.

o Assists with direct labor needs for clearing working areas, getting and carrying equipment, and any other needs the surveyors may need to perform their job. 

o May assist in conducting field surveys, including boundary, topographic, and construction staking surveys, ensuring accuracy and precision.

Data Collection:

o  Assist with accurately recording survey data and field notes, maintaining detailed and organized records.

o May assist with transferring collected data to appropriate software and assist in data processing and analysis.

Collaboration:

o Works closely with surveyors, engineers, and other team members to ensure project requirements and deadlines are met.

o Communicates effectively with project managers regarding survey progress and findings.

Equipment Maintenance:

o Performs routine maintenance and calibration of survey instruments to ensure optimal performance.

o Reports any equipment issues or malfunctions promptly to the survey manager.

Safety and Compliance:

o Adheres to all safety protocols and procedures while working in the field.

o Ensurse all survey activities comply with relevant regulations, codes, and standards.

Requirements

Qualifications for the Survey Technician/Instrument Person:

High school diploma or equivalent

Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.

Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
