Job description

Electric Boat is the premier designer and builder of nuclear powered submarines for the US Navy and we are experiencing a period of unprecedented growth! We are looking for people who want to learn and grow within our Sheetmetal Department as we continue to build the most advanced submarines.

With more than a century of experience, Electric Boat has established standards of excellence in the design, construction and lifecycle support of submarines for the U.S. Navy while maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.  A Sheetmetal Worker is required to interpret construction drawings with basic mathematic ability.  Job tasks include layout, fabrication, assembly, and installation of all light gage metalwork which includes air-conditioned ductwork, lockers, cabinets, prefabricated bulkheads, doors, furniture and Formica.  Work assignments will be accomplished using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, shipyard procedures and shop machinery.  Work conditions may include entry in restricted/confined spaces.

Required: 

  • Must have a High School Diploma/GED, be a current High School Senior OR 2+ years of relevant technical experience
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience to this job description
  • Must be able to complete and pass the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative training program if applicable

Preferred: 

  • Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
  • Previous metal fabrication experience
  • Military shipbuilding, Manufacturing, and Automotive industry experience

  • Must be able to work all shifts and in all environments as well as Radiological areas of the boat
  • Willing to accept road job assignments
  • Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD secret clearance
