Job description

The Systems Engineer I is an entry-level infrastructure engineering position within the Platform Operations team. This role is responsible for supporting, maintaining, monitoring, and improving the enterprise technology environments that support SwitchThink Solutions and our credit union clients. The Systems Engineer I works closely with senior engineers, service desk personnel, security teams, vendors, and client stakeholders to ensure infrastructure systems remain secure, stable, and highly available. This role spans server administration, virtualization, cloud technologies, disaster recovery, automation, and operational excellence in support of mission-critical financial services environments.
What you will do here:
Deliver Exceptional Client Service
  • Provide technical support for infrastructure-related incidents, requests, and escalations.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and internal teams regarding issues, maintenance activities, and service impacts.
  • Build trusted relationships through professionalism, accountability, and responsiveness.
  • Contribute to a client-first culture that aligns with SwitchThink's commitment to service excellence.
  • Consistently meet service level objectives and operational expectations

Support Enterprise Infrastructure
  • Administer and support Windows Server environments.
  • Monitor and maintain server, virtualization, storage, and backup systems.
  • Support VMware and Microsoft infrastructure technologies.
  • Assist with system provisioning, upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management.
  • Perform routine health checks and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Deliver high-quality client support and communication.

Design, Build & Implement Technology Solutions
  • Assist in the design, deployment, and implementation of infrastructure solutions that align with client and organizational business requirements.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of server, virtualization, cloud, storage, backup, and endpoint management projects.
  • Support the implementation and administration of Microsoft 365 technologies, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, Intune, and Entra ID.
  • Assist with the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of enterprise applications and supporting systems.
  • Build and configure infrastructure components according to established standards, security requirements, and operational best practices.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to develop secure, scalable, and highly available technology solutions.
  • Participate in technology refreshes, migrations, upgrades, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
  • Validate implementations through testing, documentation, and operational handoff procedures.
  • Contribute to architecture documentation, implementation plans, technical standards, and operational procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, performance, automation, and operational efficiency.

Maintain Secure and Reliable Systems
  • Support vulnerability remediation and security hardening initiatives.
  • Assist with implementation of security best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Participate in incident response and operational recovery efforts.
  • Help maintain system availability and performance within established service levels.

Execute Operational Excellence
  • Follow established Incident, Change, Problem, and Request Management processes.
  • Implement approved changes according to operational standards.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and operational procedures.
  • Successfully execute assigned maintenance and change activities
  • Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, and process improvement.

Support Business Continuity
  • Monitor backups and validate successful completion of recovery processes.
  • Participate in disaster recovery testing and business continuity exercises.
  • Assist in maintaining recovery documentation and operational readiness.

  • Partner with Infrastructure, Security, Database, Networking, Service Desk, and Project teams to support work efforts and enhance skills..

What you will need:
Required:
  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (preferred) OR equivalent work experience required.
  • 1+ years of experience in systems administration, technical support, infrastructure operations, or managed services required.
  • 1+ years of experience supporting Microsoft Windows operating systems and enterprise infrastructure technologies required.
  • Working knowledge of server hardware troubleshooting, PowerShell for automation and scripting, and infrastructure monitoring tools to support system health and performance required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows Server administration, Active Directory, and virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration fundamentals required.
  • Demonstrate competency with backup and recovery technologies required.
  • Demonstrates expertise in DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP networking fundamentals required.
  • Demonstrates commitment to operational excellence by actively seeking opportunities to improve systems, processes, and personal skills required.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to understanding client needs and delivering outstanding service experiences required.

Preferred:
  • 1+ years of experience within a Managed Services Provider (MSP) environment preferred.
  • 1+ years experience supporting financial institutions or highly regulated environments preferred.
  • 1+ years experience with Microsoft Azure preferred.
  • Collaborates effectively across teams, sharing knowledge and contributing to collective success required.
  • MECM/SCCM preferred.
  • Microsoft, VMware, CompTIA, or similar technical certifications preferred.
