POSITION SUMMARY:
The Industrial Sewing Machine Operator I is responsible for performing basic sewing operations in a manufacturing environment. This role operates industrial sewing equipment to assemble components or finished products according to established specifications, quality standards, and production goals. The Sewing Operator I works under general supervision and focuses on learning proper machine operation, quality requirements, and safe work practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Operate industrial sewing machines, including single needle machines, to assemble or sew components and products.
  • Perform basic sewing tasks such as straight seams, curved seams, binding, and zipper setting according to work instructions.
  • Operate binding machines without assistive aides once trained.
  • Assist with sewing machine setup, including threading, needle changes, and basic adjustments.
  • Perform minor machine adjustments and identify issues requiring maintenance support.
  • Read and follow work orders, work instructions, and specification sheets.
  • Conduct visual inspections of materials and finished products to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Place scrap material in appropriate containers and document as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Assist with training legally blind individuals for remedial purposes or new sewing projects, as directed.
  • Work in accordance with company safety, quality, and production standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work under general supervision.

JOB REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:
  • Education:  High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred       
  • Experience:  Previous sewing or manufacturing experience preferred. 
  • Exposure to industrial sewing equipment is beneficial.

Knowledge/Skills:      
  • Basic math skills. 
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. 
  • Attention to detail and quality. 
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with co workers and supervisors. 
  • Positive work attitude and willingness to learn. 
  • Ability to multitask in a production environment.
