How much do entry level seismic geophysicist jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 22, 2026, the average yearly pay for entry level seismic geophysicist in the United States is $95,411.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $70,000.00 and $112,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is the difference between Entry Level Seismic Geophysicist vs Entry Level Geophysicist?

AspectEntry Level Seismic Geophysicist

Entry Level Seismic Geophysicists focus on seismic data acquisition, processing, and interpretation specific to subsurface imaging, often working with seismic surveys and geophysical software. Entry Level Geophysicists have a broader scope, including various geophysical methods like gravity, magnetic, and seismic surveys, with a wider range of data types and applications. Both roles typically require a degree in geophysics or related fields and entry-level certifications. While seismic geophysicists work primarily in oil and gas exploration, environmental, or engineering projects, general geophysicists may work across academia, research, or multiple industries. The main difference lies in specialization versus broader geophysical applications.

How to become a geophysicist with no experience?

To become an entry-level seismic geophysicist with no experience, pursue a bachelor's degree in geophysics, geology, or a related field. Gaining skills in seismic data analysis, programming, and using geophysical software, along with internships or entry-level positions, can help build relevant experience and improve job prospects.

What jobs in the US pay $300,000 a year?

Entry level seismic geophysicists typically do not earn $300,000 annually; such high salaries are usually associated with senior roles, specialized consulting, or management positions in the oil and gas industry. Achieving this level often requires extensive experience, advanced skills, and sometimes additional certifications or leadership responsibilities.

What jobs pay $500,000 a year in the US?

Entry level seismic geophysicists typically do not earn $500,000 annually; such high salaries are usually associated with senior roles, specialized consulting, or executive positions in the energy or mining industries. High earnings in geophysics often require extensive experience, advanced skills, and leadership responsibilities, which are uncommon at the entry level.

What jobs will no longer exist in 2030?

Entry Level Seismic Geophysicist roles are less likely to be fully replaced by automation by 2030, but some routine data processing and manual interpretation tasks may be automated with advances in AI and machine learning. Jobs heavily reliant on manual data collection or basic analysis could diminish as technology improves, emphasizing the need for skills in software tools, data analysis, and interpretation. However, specialized roles requiring expert judgment and field experience are expected to persist longer.
