Job description

Position Objective: The Scientific Technical Writer/Editor will provide support services to satisfy the overall objectives of the Fogarty International Center (FIC) within the National Institutes of Health.

The Scientific Technical Writer/Editor shall provide comprehensive editorial, writing, research, and multimedia support services to support FIC communications. Services shall include content development, editorial planning, production coordination, and dissemination support across newsletters, websites, and social media platforms.

The Scientific Technical Writer/Editor shall ensure all content is clear, accurate, audience-appropriate, and aligned with NIH and HHS communication standards. The Contractor shall work collaboratively with FIC staff, designers, and web managers to ensure timely delivery of communication products and adherence to publication schedules.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Newsletter Content (GHM & Staff) Articles, profiles, and editorial content for newsletters Bimonthly / Ongoing
  • Social Media Content Draft posts supporting newsletter and program communications
  • Multimedia Products Video/audio content derived from interviews and events
  • Editorial Calendar & Planning Docs Content plans, story ideas, and Focus section strategies
  • Website Content Updates New and revised content for NIH/Fogarty web platforms
  • Visual Asset Deliverables Images with usage rights and metadata documentation
  • Event Coverage Materials Written summaries, articles, and multimedia from events
  • Correspondence Documentation Communications with sources and stakeholders

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience in researching complex topics and conducting inciteful interviews.
  • Experience translating complex subjects into compelling articles for a lay audience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff
  • Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
