Job description

The Opportunity

Ulteig is excited to announce that we are seeking an Assistant Bridge Inspector Engineer who will perform and supervise NBIS Routine, Rope Access, or Underwater bridge inspections for our clients as a member of our bridge team. The selected candidate will be involved with the inspection of highway structures and the design of small to large multi-discipline projects. The candidate will also have an opportunity to be a part of bridge and structural design work and/or perform bridge load ratings. This role will be a mix of field and office work; if you do not want to be at a desk every day and apply engineering skills, this position could be for you. Candidates must be self-motivated with excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment with strong attention to detail.

What You'll Do

  • Applies up-to-date, standard bridge inspection techniques to complete NBIS Routine, Rope Access, or Underwater bridge inspections on multiday bridge inspection trips while evaluating a variety of structure types, including bridges, ancillary, and minor highway structures.
  • Assists with providing practical rehabilitation recommendations based on the observed conditions.
  • Assist with performing load ratings based on gathered field data and as-built plans.
  • Perform inspections using Non-Destructive Testing and visual inspection methods using specialized access equipment.
  • Work on projects associated with multiple State DOTs.
  • Travel up to 50% of each month.

What We Expect from You

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent preferred.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) licensure or the ability to obtain one in 6 months is preferred.
  • 0-3 years in the civil/structural engineering field.
  • National Highway Institute (NHI) coursework (Fracture Critical, Underwater Bridge Inspection, etc.) certification is preferred.
  • Any prior experience performing NBIS bridge inspection as an assistant team member is preferred.
  • Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI) Entry Level Tender/Diver, Air Diver, or Air-Diving Supervisor certification is preferred.
  • Experience using Non-Destructive Testing methods is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, planning, and mentoring skills.
  • Experience in bridge and structural design is preferred.
  • Experience in bridge load ratings and AASHTOWare Bridge rating BrR is preferred.
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Pass pre-employment substance abuse screening and background check.

Additional Opportunity Details:
Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $67,300 - $90,000
* Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your job-specific skills, education, training, job location, number of years of experience related to this role, and comparison to other employees already in this role
