Position Summary
The University of Detroit Mercy, College of Health Professions, McAuley School of Nursing is seeking applicants for the position of Professor of Practice, a full-time non-tenure track position, to support the expansion of our master's entry advanced generalist nursing (MEAGN) program to West Michigan. The MEAGN program, successfully launched at our Novi campus in 2021, is the first of its kind in Michigan and provides the pathway to nursing for individuals with who hold a baccalaureate degree outside of nursing. The West Michigan campus expects to launch in 2026.
The faculty member of the MEAGN program prepares students to provide mission driven, exceptional nursing care and facilitates quality improvement as leaders at the bedside, on the unit, and across the health system. Faculty in the MEAGN Program participate in activities that contribute to both the profession and university mission through teaching, scholarship and service. Key to this role is participation in innovative education strategies in the classroom, skills laboratory, clinical, and simulation center, as part of the MEAGN faculty team. Mentoring students as entry level nurses with an advanced degree is essential for their transition to practice, as well as further education and preparation as advanced nurses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching :
- Develop content and teach students in didactic, clinical and laboratory courses.
- Provide students with learning opportunities to develop advanced competencies.
- Pursue development of teaching strategies that support student achievement of competencies.
- Clinical coordination to support and develop adjunct faculty while bridging clinical and classroom.
- Work with the faculty team to develop and participate in innovative teaching strategies, including the Integrated Learning Encounters incorporating simulation.
- Utilize feedback from course evaluations and key outcome measures such as the NCLEX pass rate to improve student learning.
- Advising students to enhance and support student success. Includes maintaining records of advising meetings and referrals to appropriate support services.
Scholarship:
- Scholarly work is optional for individuals in the non-tenure Professor of Practice track.
Service:
- Participation in program track, school, college, and/or university shared governance through contributions in committees, taskforces, and other relevant organizations.
- Participation in student-related organizations and events.
- Membership and contributions to professional organizations.
Mission:
- Supporting the development of an academically diverse student body.
- Upholding the mission of the university and McAuley School Nursing through teaching, scholarly and service activities.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- This individual demonstrates teaching effectiveness in nursing practice.
- Minimum of Master's in Nursing and Doctorate is preferred.
- Licensing/Professional Certifications: Michigan RN license or ability to obtain as well as applicable national nursing certification.
- Expertise in clinical nursing practice with a minimum or 3 years of clinical practice in a specialty area.
- Commitment to contribute to clinical learning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preference will be given to candidates who have a record of teaching effectiveness in nursing practice.
Physical Requirements
Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).
Work Environment
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
