Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Diagnostic Radiology Manager and/or Assistant Chief Technologist, the CT Tech Trainee performs a wide variety of technical and professional duties utilizing advanced imaging equipment to produce high-quality CT images for interpretation by radiologists.
This role provides hands-on experience in CT imaging while supporting departmental operations, delivering exceptional patient care, and developing the skills required for CT certification and future advancement within the organization.
To support operational needs, CT staff may be assigned to work at any Yale New Haven Hospital CT location as needed.
Responsibilities
CT Imaging & Technical Excellence
- Perform CT examinations using approved imaging protocols and established department standards.
- Utilize technical expertise and knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
- Follow High Reliability Organization (HRO) practices to promote patient safety and imaging accuracy.
- Operate CT scanners and related equipment using age-appropriate and dose-reduction protocols.
- Perform daily equipment warm-up procedures, calibrations, and quality assurance activities.
Patient Care & Experience
- Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care while ensuring patient comfort, safety, and satisfaction.
- Clearly explain procedures and answer patient questions to reduce anxiety and promote cooperation.
- Monitor patients throughout imaging procedures and maintain a safe clinical environment.
Team Collaboration & Workflow Support
- Partner with physicians, nurses, schedulers, administrative staff, and other care team members to coordinate patient care.
- Assist with scheduling needs, requisitions, pre-authorizations, patient preparation instructions, and exam-related communications.
- Communicate critical information effectively with radiologists and technologists to support seamless operations and minimize errors.
Professional Development & Education
- Participate in educational, training, research, and learning opportunities to expand CT imaging knowledge and expertise.
- Support the teaching and development of students, residents, fellows, and fellow technologists as appropriate.
- Continuously build the clinical competencies necessary for CT certification and career advancement.
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an AMA-approved Radiologic Technology program.
- Associate degree preferred.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience
- One (1) to three (3) years of CT experience with routine imaging techniques preferred.
- Demonstrated technical skills consistent with entry-level CT imaging standards.
Licensure & Certifications
- ARRT Radiography Certification [RT(R)] required.
- Connecticut State License required.
- CT Certification required or 20 years of CT experience.
- CPR Certification preferred.
