DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: St. Charles Ambulatory Care encompasses practices in three Central Oregon counties and numerous specialties including family care, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, urgent care, cardiology, pulmonology, rheumatology, general surgery, behavioral health, cancer care, and sleep medicine. We encourage collaboration between clinical and non-clinical staff to assure we are providing our community with comprehensive and compassionate health care.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The RN Educator promotes nursing and allied health professional development and clinical practice scope guidance and competency through a matrix of roles including: learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for scientific inquiry, educator, advocate, consultant, and researcher to support the organization in the protection of the public, provision of quality care and creation of a healthy work environment. The RN Educator engages in the following standards of professional practice to succeed in the above roles as described: assessment of practice/knowledge gaps, identification of learning needs, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
The RN Educator utilizes evidence-based practices and research to develop timely learning and professional growth opportunities for clinical caregivers. This position collaborates with clinical and administrative leadership, as well as Compliance, Legal, Human Resources, Safety, Quality, and staff to identify areas of need as it relates to clinical practice and professional development. In addition, this position serves as a role model of professional practice and behavior and is instrumental in creating a professional practice climate within the organization to meet the needs of the health care system mission, vision and values.
This position does not directly manage other caregivers; however, may be asked to review and provide feedback on the work of other caregivers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Partners with the Clinical Practice and Professional Development team to ensure evidence-based education for clinical practice is maintained by providing education on quality initiatives, strategic initiative, and compliance needs.
Partners with campus nurse leaders in caregiver education, which may include monitoring, mentoring, or facilitating education to align with the mission, vision, and values.
Conducts systematic and ongoing learning needs assessments of individuals and/or groups using a variety of techniques and sources.
Identifies educational objectives based on assessment data, quality improvement and regulatory/accrediting bodies' requirements.
Develops educational programs for nurses and allied health caregivers at all stages of their career development that are culturally sensitive, age appropriate, and family centered after a complete review, validation and prioritization of needs and within available budget, staff and other resources.
Plans, prepares, and maintains materials for use in educational programs for accuracy and relevance to the target audience.
Teaches content as needed and/or assigned within informal settings with a focus upon improvement of skills and retention of knowledge using appropriate strategies, technologies and adult learning principles.
Ensures that educational activities are implemented professionally and timely, adjusts content and teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs, and documents teaching/learning process and outcomes in accordance with standards.
Conducts evaluations of assigned educational programs to determine if the purpose and objectives have been achieved and to identify areas for improvement in course design, content, and delivery.
Supports principles of continuous improvement by acting as a change agent with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion for Daily Management Systems such as: seeking perfection, curiosity, humble inquiry, process at the source and standard work. Leads and coaches all levels of leadership on visual management and countermeasures.
Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the organization's corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violation of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all organizational investigations and proceedings.
Delivers customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient, and accurate.

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Internal candidates may meet the Bachelor's degree requirement with verification of a Bachelor's degree in progress with an expected completion date within 24 months of the promotion date; progress will be reported periodically to the site CNO.
Preferred: Master's Degree in Nursing, or RN and Master's degree in data analytics, public health or related field.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
Required: Current Oregon RN license. AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification. Valid Oregon driver's license and ability to meet SCHS driving requirements.
Preferred: Lean, CQE, CPHQ, or other industry-recognized quality certification.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Minimum three to five (3-5) years clinic nursing experience. Experience with various teaching methodologies.
Preferred: Three (3) years as a clinical educator. Three (3) years of ambulatory nursing experience.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Continually (75% or more): Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.
Frequently (50%): Sitting, standing, walking, lifting 1-10 pounds, keyboard operation.
Occasionally (25%): Bending, climbing stairs, reaching overhead, carrying/pushing or pulling 1-10 pounds, grasping/squeezing.
Rarely (10%): Stooping/kneeling/crouching, lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling 11-25 pounds, operation of a motor vehicle.
