Entry Level or Associate Software Safety Engineer

Boeing Defense, Space & Security's (BDS) is seeking a Software Safety Engineerto join our System Engineering Teamin Oklahoma City, OK. Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Entry-Level (Level 1) or Associate (Level 2) Software Safety Engineers.

At Boeing, Safety is at the core of everything we do. As a Software Safety Engineer, you will work across the entire program lifecycle, from conceptual development into design and test, production, and sustainment of fielded aircraft for both USG and International customers. We are looking for candidates that can ask tough questions, challenge conventional thinking, and identify potential hazards to our aircraft and crew. You'll have the opportunity to interface with all levels of Engineering and Program Management as well as our customers.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Defines and validates safety, mission success, and airworthiness; provides support incorporating into designs, operations, and procedures.
  • Provides support for our internal software certification process
  • Performs hazard tracking and risk resolution via System/Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), Safety Assessment Report (SAR) and Safety Critical Function Thread Analysis (SCFTA).
  • Conducts safety assessments and technical safety memos, including: Engineering Review Boards, Safety Review Board, address aircraft safety concerns, and track safety critical items.
  • Supports System Safety Working Groups (SSWG)
  • Be comfortable briefing all levels of management, program office, and USAF personnel
  • Performs various analyses and integration activities to optimize total system of systems architecture for Software Safety
  • Identifies, analyzes, and assesses regulatory and/or contractual compliance of aerospace systems, products and services against the applied development and design assurance standards (MIL-STD-882E, JSSEH, DO-178, DO-254, MIL-HDBK-516C Section 15, AC-17-01) to provide the necessary hazard mitigation evidence
  • Analyzes software to identify potential failure conditions or investigate reported in-service fleet hazards, risks, and safety concerns
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety requirements
  • Verifies that the system meets or exceeds the defined safety requirements by conducting safety analyses, audits, and reviews
  • Demonstrates safety hazard risk mitigation and control methods to the customer and regulators

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Active US Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain a US Secret Clearance
  • Experience in a role that required strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively brief and collaborate with various stakeholders, including management, program offices, and military personnel
  • Experience in a role that requires strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret large datasets
  • Experience as a software or safety engineer

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

  • Experience with software certification processes and standards, such as DO-178C or similar, and experience supporting internal software certification activities
  • 2+ years of experience as a software or safety engineer experience
