Entry Level Rf Power Amplifier Engineer information

What are some common challenges faced by Entry Level RF Power Amplifier Engineers during their first year on the job?

Entry Level RF Power Amplifier Engineers often encounter challenges such as understanding complex circuit designs, troubleshooting performance issues, and balancing hands-on testing with simulation work. Adjusting to the fast-paced environment—where priorities can shift due to project requirements—can also be demanding. New engineers frequently work closely with senior team members, learning to interpret test results, use specialized lab equipment, and document findings accurately. Building effective communication skills is essential, as collaboration with cross-functional teams like PCB designers and systems engineers is a regular part of the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level RF Power Amplifier Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level RF Power Amplifier Engineer, you need a solid understanding of RF circuit theory, electronics fundamentals, and a relevant engineering degree such as Electrical or Electronics Engineering. Familiarity with simulation tools like ADS, SPICE, or HFSS, and test equipment such as network analyzers and spectrum analyzers, is commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for troubleshooting and collaborating within multidisciplinary teams. These skills and qualities ensure accurate amplifier design, efficient problem-solving, and successful project execution in a highly technical field.

What does an Entry Level RF Power Amplifier Engineer do?

An Entry Level RF Power Amplifier Engineer is responsible for assisting in the design, testing, and optimization of radio frequency (RF) power amplifiers, which are essential components in wireless communication systems. Their tasks often include supporting senior engineers with schematic capture, circuit simulation, prototyping, and conducting performance measurements. They also help troubleshoot technical issues, document test results, and may assist in the integration of amplifiers into larger systems. This role is ideal for recent graduates or those with limited experience in RF engineering who want to develop hands-on skills in a growing field.

Our team strives to deliver robust solutions to address difficult problems facing the U.S. Department of Defense and the warfighter. We strive to foster an environment of collaboration and innovation!
As an RF Design Engineer, you will...
  • Build innovative hardware solutions such as antennas, custom PCBs, RF circuits and systems.
  • Apply electrical and RF engineering tools to develop and predict hardware performance.
  • Define and complete hardware test activities to assess hardware system performance.
  • Document and present work to sponsors, technical teams, and APL management.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest RF electronics, embedded systems, and embedded software innovations.
  • Continually grow your skills in engineering, communication, and leadership.

Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
  • Possess a B.S. in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or an equivalent technical domain.
  • Have demonstrated ability with ECAD design tools such as Altium, Ki-CAD, Eagle, and/or Mentor Graphics.
  • Have familiarity using embedded software tools/ languages (i.e. Arduino, Platform.io, CMake, C, C++).
  • Have experience with MATLAB or similar computational tools.
  • Are comfortable using lab test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal generators, etc.
  • Have familiarity with electromagnetic and RF concepts such as transmission line theory, Maxwell's equations, power budgets.
