Job description

Job Title: Distribution Designer

Job Description

As a Distribution Designer, you will support the development of design and construction packages for electrical distribution systems, with a focus on overhead projects. You will review project information provided by clients and assist with creating designs based on project requirements. This role may include occasional field visits to gather photos and measurements. You will use design software to support system layouts, help determine equipment needs, and contribute to basic analysis. You’ll also assist with preparing material lists and supporting permitting and project documentation.


Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing design packages for overhead and underground distribution systems
  • Review project scope details and support design planning
  • Participate in field visits to collect site data (photos, measurements) as needed
  • Use design tools (e.g., Open Utilities) to help create distribution layouts
  • Support basic energy analysis and equipment selection
  • Help compile Bills of Materials (BOM) and enter data into tracking systems
  • Assist with permit documentation and coordination
  • Communicate with team members and clients to support project needs
  • Work with quality reviewers to update and finalize designs

Basic Qualifications

  • Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD or similar
  • Basic understanding of electrical design concepts (coursework or internship acceptable)
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to utility or engineering projects through internships or coursework
  • Familiarity with NESC or similar standards (preferred but not required)
  • Experience with additional tools or software is a plus

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lansing, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $27.00/hr.
