Job description

Air Reading delivers evidence-based, small-group online reading instruction to elementary students across the United States. Grounded in the Science of Reading, the program partners with schools to accelerate student literacy development and provides teachers with structured curriculum, coaching, and professional development. Independent evaluations, including a randomized controlled trial conducted by Johns Hopkins University, demonstrate measurable student gains; the program holds an ESSA Tier 1 (Strong Evidence) rating.

Employment type: Contract, remote (must be located in and authorized to work in the United States).

Schedule: Flexible teaching opportunities Monday–Friday between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

Session length: Typically 30–40 minutes per small-group lesson (up to four students).

Compensation: Up to $24/hour.


Key responsibilities

  • Deliver structured, engaging small-group reading lessons via Zoom for up to four elementary students, following provided step-by-step curriculum and lesson plans.
  • Maintain instructional fidelity to structured literacy and Science of Reading approaches.
  • Monitor, document, and report student progress using established assessment tools and provide timely, actionable feedback.
  • Create and sustain a positive, orderly virtual learning environment that supports student engagement and growth.


Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • Proficiency with Zoom and common digital teaching tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to connect effectively with elementary-aged students.


Preferred qualifications (not required)

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Degree or coursework in education, literacy, English, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching early reading, phonics, or K–3 instruction and familiarity with structured literacy methods.
