Court Clerk II - Entry Level
Reporting directly to the Chief Justice Court Clerk/Administrator, the Court Clerk II is responsible for a
variety of increasingly complex legal procedural duties.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-hour days (40 hours per week). Condensed schedules (e.g., four 10-
hour days) are not offered for this position.
General:
• Maintains and ensures accuracy and integrity of the Courts' electronic and paper files.
• Records, researches, and processes Orders of the Court and ensure timely completion.
• Serve as a liaison between the judge and attorneys, other County departments, law enforcement agencies, and the
general public.
• Provides customer service and performs detailed legal procedures associated with the receipt, review, processing,
and maintenance of court documents and case files.
• Prepares and processes varied legal procedures and documents including summons, subpoenas, writs, notifications,
motions, orders, judgments, abstracts, appeals, and dismissals.
• Assist judge in the courtroom during trials, process court evidence and exhibits into the court software, draft
judgments and orders as trials are in session.
• Process incoming and outgoing mail and email.
• Must be well versed in business writing and possess strong grammar skills.
• Assist with court docket coordination.
• Schedule court hearings and disseminate notices to all parties related to case.
• Records, maintains, and reports to the State any court ordered community service, driver's license suspensions,
alcohol convictions by minors.
• Enter criminal cases into the OmniBase Services of Texas as needed.
• Cross-trains for departmental coverage of specialized duty assignments.
Research:
• Researching and maintaining a comprehensive knowledge and understating of applicable laws, criminal and civil
procedures, policies, and procedures to effectively communicate with judge, staff, elected officials, law enforcement, attorneys and pro-se litigants.
• Utilizes legal reference materials to perform research related to current laws and procedures.
• Preforms research to maintain up-to-date knowledge of monthly judgment interest rates.
Training/Certification:
• Maintain specialized knowledge of the statutes and governing processes of the court.
• Obtain required TLETS Certification and maintain recertification every two years.
• Attend annual clerk training session.
Financial:
• Collect court costs and fees.
• Calculates and processes exact fines and filing fee amounts; receives and processes payment for fees and
fines; handles receipts for money; reconciles cash drawer at the close of each business day; creates related financial reports; completes bank deposit as necessary.
• Processes surety, and cash bonds for criminal, civil, and administrative cases and personal bonds for criminal
cases.
• Balances cash drawer daily and prepares related reports on a daily and weekly basis.
