Pay Rate: $89.95Position Summary
The Cancer Center Dosimetrist PRN measures and generates radiation dose distributions and calculations under the direction of the radiation therapy physicist and radiation oncologist. The Cancer Center Dosimetrist PRN works as a member of the radiation therapy treatment planning team and is thoroughly familiar with the physical and geometrical characteristics of the radiation equipment and radioactive sources commonly employed. The Cancer Center Dosimetrist PRN also has expertise in simulation, treatment delivery and fabrication of molds and treatment devices. Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Standard Work: Cancer Center Dosimetrist PRN
  • Actively participates in team development, achieving dashboards, and in accomplishing department goals and objectives.
  • Performs dose calculations, verifies their mathematical accuracy and oversees the proper charting by radiation therapists, and follows up on deficiencies. Plans treatment technique based on the dose prescription from the radiation oncologist that will deliver the prescribed dose to the defined tumor volume and supervise implementation.
  • Develop an optimal arrangement of radiation portals and exposures to spare normal and radiosensitive tissues, while applying prescribed doses to the targeted volume. Handles national protocol treatment planning, develops and implements new simulation and treatment techniques.
  • Provides technical assistance in radiation protection, machine calibrations and quality assurance of the radiation therapy equipment to the physicist when requested. Assemble brachytherapy sources and hardware for implants.
  • Provides physics and technical support for Medical Physics. Performs radiation surveys and posts appropriate signage.
  • Assists with in vivo dose measurements. Educate RTT students in dosimetry during clinical rotations.
  • Assists in training of new Dosimetrists. Role models through professional development and continuous learning and improvement of competence in medical dosimetry.
  • Participates in clinical research for the development and implementation of new techniques. Participate in continuing education in the area of treatment planning.
  • Performs treatment unit weekly checks.
  • Performs complex simulations requiring custom immobilization devices, such as aquaplast masks and alpha cradles and special calculations such as gaps and table angles.

Competencies & Skills
Essential:

• Knowledge of physics, anatomy, and radiobiology and radiation oncology theory, application and equipment. Knowledge of age related growth and development principles. Must have analytical, planning, and computer skills. Skills in calculating and planning radiation doses. Skills in using complex treatment computers to generate plans for treating patient cancers. Ability to prioritize work and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential:

• Associate Degree

Essential:

• Radiation Therapy Technology Degree (A.S., diploma, B.S.) from an institution accredited by an agency acceptable to the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or B.S. in medical physics/dosimetry or related sciences.
