Performs skilled electrical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of campus electrical systems to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant facility operations. Independently evaluates service needs, troubleshoots complex electrical issues, and plans and completes shortrange repair projects while supporting larger initiatives through labor and material planning. Provides technical expertise across power distribution, lighting, and emergency systems, and collaborates with contractors and campus partners to coordinate service interruptions and maintain system continuity. Strong problemsolving ability, sound judgment, and consistent communication with supervisors and maintenance teams are essential to success in this role.Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Works with, maintains, and installs electrical circuits, conduit, wire sizing, breakers, and panels in compliance with NEC codes.
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs electric motors and motor control centers (MCC).
- Installs and troubleshoots interior and exterior lighting, controls, and switches.
- Cleans and maintains electrical distribution systems, switchgear, emergency power systems, ATS, generators, and performs generator load bank testing.
- Uses various task-related metering equipment (multi, megger, tick tracer, circuit trace, etc.)
- Reads blueprints and maintains knowledge of tools and materials used in the trade.
- Prioritizes work and assesses service needs.
- Plans and completes short-range electrical repairs/installations.
- Estimates labor, requisitions materials, and coordinates long-range projects.
- Monitors outside contractor schedules and equipment installations.
- Coordinates and communicates service interruptions (e.g., utility outages).
- Follows through on work to verify proper facility conditions.
- Communicates facility conditions, problems, and needs to supervisors.
- Maintains effective communication with other maintenance staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
