Job description

Position Title: Structural Shop Fabricator/Fitter
Shift: 2nd Shift (1:30pm – 10pm)
Location: Rochester, NY
Reports To: Shop Supervisor
Compensation: $25 - $35 hourly depending on experience, plus shift differential and opportunities for annual reviews and increases

Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced or entry level Structural Steel Fabricator who utilizes shop drawings and specifications to cut, shape, and assemble structural components with a focus on maintaining quality and precision throughout the construction process. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring that all steelwork meets project requirements and adheres to safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Layout and fit up of structural steel according to fabrication drawings and specifications.
  • Perform tack welding and MIG welding to join steel components.
  • Interpret fabrication drawings, including weld symbols, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Undertake additional tasks, as assigned, to support the team’s overall effort.
  • Availability for overtime work, as required, by project demands.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Ability to interpret complex fabrication drawings to ensure accurate assembly of steel structures.
  • Proficiency in assembling and erecting structural steel components such as beams, columns, and other products.
  • Competence in using various tools including tape measures, squares, and welding equipment to achieve precise steelwork.
  • Experience with grinding techniques for external, internal, and surface finishing.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet project deadlines.
  • Safe operation of assigned equipment, following established safety protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a steel parts processing environment.
  • Experience in operating overhead cranes.
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Commitment to maintaining safe work habits and adherence to safety regulations.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and challenges.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification or training in welding and fabrication techniques preferred.
  • Proven experience in structural steel fabrication and assembly.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and maneuver heavy steel components.
  • Comfortable working in various weather conditions and environments.
