The Field Trainee Technician (L1) supports data center operations under the direct supervision of an assigned mentor technician. This entry-level role is limited to performing less complex, non-technical tasks such as material management, site escorts, and other non-technician scope activities while gaining exposure to data center environments, safety procedures, and industry standards. The trainee may support short-term project labor as assigned.

Other duties, responsibilities, and qualifications may be required or assigned. This position requires fieldwork, which may include overtime, weekends, holidays, and off-hours. Travel may be required depending on business needs.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs less complex, non-technical tasks including material management, site escorts, and other duties outside of technician scope.
  • Not permitted to perform capacity-critical or technical tasks without a mentor technician present for direct supervision.

What You'll Learn as a Field Trainee Technician (L1):

  • Gain knowledge of basic tools, construction practices, and communication networks.
  • Gain knowledge of cable installation quality assurance and quality control practices.
  • Gain knowledge of fiber optic cable types, construction, and manufacturer specifications to prevent cable damage.
  • Gain knowledge of ISP racks, cabinets, ladder rack, fiber guide systems, and termination panels from various manufacturers.
  • Gain knowledge of cable testing procedures and test equipment.
  • Gain knowledge of inside plant safety measures.
  • Gain knowledge of data center security processes and adherence to established protocols.

Education and Experience

  • 1+ years of documented industry experience
  • Basic technical skills at entry level.
  • Relevant experience includes work in a similar industry or roles with comparable essential duties
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and make sound decisions based on available information
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to multitask and remain organized under pressure

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
