As a Programmer Analyst, you will have the unique opportunity to gain broad exposure across Bernstein's technology organization while building the technical, analytical, and business skills needed for a successful career in financial technology. You will contribute to software development initiatives and technology projects while developing a comprehensive understanding of the systems that powers Bernstein's Research, Sales, and Trading businesses. Through hands-on experience and collaboration with both technology and business partners, you will gain valuable insight into how technology serves as a critical enabler of the firm's strategy, operations, innovation, and growth.

This role is ideal for intellectually curious individuals who want to develop strong technical capabilities while gaining a broad understanding of the people, processes, and technologies that drive a leading global investment firm.

In this role, you will:

  • Work alongside engineering, architecture, infrastructure, data, cybersecurity, product, and technology operations teams to gain exposure to a wide range of technologies and disciplines.
  • Develop an understanding of Bernstein's technology ecosystem, including how applications, data, infrastructure, and workflows interact across the organization.
  • Partner with business stakeholders across Research, Sales, Trading, Compliance, Legal, Operations, and Business Management to understand their objectives and technology needs.
  • Gain firsthand exposure to the business processes and workflows that technology supports throughout the firm.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to deliver solutions that improve efficiency, scalability, reliability, and user experience.
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, deployment, and support.
  • Learn and apply modern software engineering practices, development standards, and technology frameworks.
  • Contribute ideas and innovative solutions that enhance applications, processes, and team performance.
  • Build strong relationships across technology and business organizations while developing a deep understanding of the firm's culture and operating model.

What You'll Gain

This role offers a unique foundation for a long-term career in technology by providing:

  • Exposure to a broad range of technology teams, platforms, and disciplines.
  • Hands-on experience working on business-critical applications and technology initiatives.
  • A deep understanding of how technology enables and drives key business functions across the firm.
  • Insight into the interconnected nature of Research, Trading, Sales, Compliance, Legal, and Operations.
  • Opportunities to learn from experienced engineers, technology leaders, and business professionals.
  • A strong internal network and relationships across both technology and business teams.
  • A comprehensive understanding of Bernstein's technology landscape and the strategic role technology plays in supporting clients and the business.

We seek candidates who demonstrate strong academic performance and a genuine enthusiasm for programming and software development. Ideal candidates are proactive learners, eager to contribute fresh perspectives and collaborate effectively within a team. Additionally, a knowledge of or enthusiasm for stocks and financial markets is highly valued, as it will help contextualize the work and drive meaningful contributions to our applications.
