Position Summary:

The Department of Population Health at Florida Atlantic University is seeking an FAU undergraduate student for a Student Data Assistant position in Boca Raton, FL.

The Student Data Assistant position provides entry-level analytic and administrative support to the Department of Population Health's research and evaluation projects. Working under the close supervision of biostatisticians and research staff, this role assists with data preparation, basic analyses, documentation, and reporting tasks while gaining hands-on experience in population health research methods. This position is designed to support student learning and professional development while contributing to departmental research operations.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Assist with data cleaning, formatting, and validation under supervision.

  • Support basic descriptive analyses (e.g., counts, percentages, means) using statistical software such as R, SAS, Stata, Excel, or Python, as appropriate.

  • Help prepare tables, charts, and simple data visualizations for internal reports, presentations, or manuscripts.

  • Conduct literature searches and assist with organizing references related to analytic methods or study background.

  • Maintain organized project files, including data dictionaries, codebooks, and annotated scripts, following established templates.

  • Assist with updating tracking logs for analyses, datasets, and project deliverables.

  • Help document analytic steps and decisions in clear, non-technical language.

  • Support research staff with IRB-related documentation, data use tracking, or study materials as assigned.

  • Assist with preparation of internal summaries, presentations, or partner-facing materials.

  • Participate in team meetings and take notes or follow up on assigned tasks.

  • Learn basic statistical concepts, data standards, and research best practices through hands-on tasks and mentorship.

  • Follow data security, privacy, and compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, institutional policies). Contribute to a collaborative research environment by asking questions, seeking feedback, and meeting deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications:

FAU degree seeking undergraduate student enrolled in public health, statistics, data science, epidemiology, biostatistics, sociology, psychology, biology, or a related field required.
Completion of at least one introductory statistics or data analysis course required.
Basic familiarity with Excel and/or a statistical or programming tool (R, SAS, Stata, SPSS, or Python) required.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately required.
Good written and verbal communication skills required.

Salary:

$14.00 - $18.00 hourly.
