| Aspect | Entry Level Programmer | Software Developer |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Associate's degree or coding bootcamp certification | Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field often preferred |
| Work Environment | Entry-level coding tasks, supervised projects | Design, develop, and maintain software applications |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Tech companies, startups, IT departments | Software firms, tech companies, enterprise IT teams |
While both roles involve coding and software development, an Entry Level Programmer typically focuses on basic coding tasks under supervision, whereas a Software Developer often handles full project cycles, including design and testing. The roles overlap in skills and industry usage, but the Software Developer position generally requires more experience and responsibility.
As an entry-level programmer, you use software programming languages to create and maintain applications for in-house, proprietary use or clients. You go through an onboarding process to learn your company’s code base and their processes for software development. You work on a team with other programmers and developers, and your job duties include writing code to develop software according to required specifications, testing and debugging code, creating and rolling out fixes, and publishing finished code to the production server. As you gain experience and your skillset expands, you can take on jobs with more autonomy and responsibility.

Are you an experienced engineer that is passionate about driving innovation and efficiency in manufacturing?
Miller Electric, an ITW company, is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Components Division in our Magnetics, Leads, and Harness (MLH) Center of Excellence (CoE). As a Manufacturing Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in developing and executing cutting-edge engineering processes that elevate our operations. You’ll be at the forefront of enhancing safety, quality, delivery, and productivity while achieving impactful cost savings. Collaborating with engineering and operations teams, you’ll bring your expertise in transformer, inductor, and wire harness assembly processes to plan, organize, and execute key initiatives. If you’re ready to take ownership of transformative projects and make a tangible difference, this role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of manufacturing.

Technology Evaluation: Evaluate new technologies, materials, and components that enhance the assembly process or product quality.
Design for Manufacturability: Provide input during the design phase to ensure products are designed for ease of assembly and cost-effective production.
Continuous Improvement Drive improvement to existing processes that reduce cost, risk, and waste
Technical Support and Equipment Management:
Equipment Maintenance: Manage the installation, calibration, process control, and preventive maintenance of assembly equipment, including automatic and semi-automatic wire cutting equipment, wire crimping equipment, transformer winding equipment, harness assembly and testing fixtures, and pneumatic power tools.
Problem Solving & Support: Provide technical support to the production team, troubleshooting and resolving issues related to safety, quality, assembly, and process defects.
Prototyping & Design Validation: Define and oversee prototypes of new assemblies or systems to validate design concepts and functionality.
Collaboration and Project Leadership:
Project Management: Develop project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders, ensuring technical feasibility and timely completion.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams, including design, quality, and supply chain, to bring innovative products from concept to production.
Project Leadership: Lead initiatives aimed at improving safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost savings, using ITW Toolbox principles to achieve business objectives.
Communication: Demonstrate effective communication at all organizational levels, providing progress updates on projects, identifying barriers, and recommending solutions.
What you need to do to be successful in this role:
Self-Accountability: Demonstrate a positive attitude, high motivation, and a keen sense of personal accountability.
Proven project management skills: a drive to learn and continuously improve. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Strong Communicator: Demonstrate excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills and ability to communicate with individuals with varied technical understanding.
Self-Starter: Highly self-motivated, quick to learn, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple projects at once. Demonstrates strong initiative and consistent follow-through in all areas of responsibility
Minimum Qualifications:
