Job description

The Welder is responsible for fabricating and welding parts and assemblies according to engineering specifications, blueprints, and work instructions. This role is structured into four tiers based on skill level, certification, and the ability to perform independently across workstations including Cover Weld, CAโ€™s, Positioner, Compression, Leg and Pad, and complete TA/CA builds.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Tier 1 โ€“ Entry-Level Welder

  • Perform cover welds and weld CAโ€™s.
  • Pass .035โ€ wire weld tests.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and work instructions to ensure use of correct CA and TA components.
  • Perform and complete assigned production welding tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Reference and apply work instructions correctly.
  • Fabricate covers to fit TAโ€™s accurately.
  • Plasma cutting.
  • Obtain and maintain overhead crane certification.
  • Consistently meets or exceeds rate expectations across all operations.
  • Maintain valid crane certification.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Team Lead, which may include performing all assembly operations within the assigned area.

Tier 2 โ€“ Intermediate Welder

  • Fulfill all Tier 1 responsibilities.
  • Perform welding tasks at Positioner.
  • Pass 2G .052โ€ Metal Core weld tests.
  • Pass 1G SMAW weld test.
  • Independently weld TAโ€™s on a positioner.


Tier 3 โ€“ Advanced Welder

  • Fulfill all Tier 1 and Tier 2 responsibilities.
  • Perform welding tasks at Compression, Leg, and Pad stations.
  • Set up and fully weld using Leg and Pad fixture following work instructions.
  • Set up Compression fixture, check stack height, and perform complete welds.
  • Demonstrate versatility across all welding stations: Cover Weld, CAโ€™s, Positioner, Compression, Leg and Pad.
  • Required to train other employees including temps.
  • Maintain high quality and productivity across work areas with minimal supervision.


Tier 4 โ€“ Expert Welder / Full Assembly

  • Perform all duties from Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3.
  • Independently build TAโ€™s and CAโ€™s from start to finish using blueprints, work instructions, and bill of materials.
  • Perform TIG welding and associated repair work.
  • Repair and rework non-confirming parts in accordance with TAโ€™s, CAโ€™s, and other quality directives.
  • Ensure all parts are correctly sourced and verified prior to assembly.
  • Complete entire assemblies without supervision, demonstrating expert-level fabrication and welding skill.
  • Demonstrate the ability and desire to fill in for the team leader during absences.


Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Basic math and measurement skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and instructions.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and up to 75 pounds with team assistance or mechanical aid.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, twist, and reach for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.
  • Visual acuity for weld quality inspection.
  • Must comply with all safety protocols including PPE usage and crane operation where required.
