Position Description:
The main objective of a Supplier Quality Engineer is to ensure that products and supplies from vendors are high quality, free of damages and defects, and follow government, company, and manufacturing standards. The SQE also advises on increasing the quality of these products and making suggestions to improve supplier manufacturing processes. Their tasks involve overseeing manufacturing processes, logistics, and issues related to supply chain management. SQEs typically develop relationships with suppliers, act as a liaison between them and company representatives, and create reports and databases of provider information to help ensure the company works with the highest-quality vendors.
Primary Duties:
• Develop, implement, and maintain supplier quality assurance protocols to ensure compliance with company standards and customer requirements.
• Conduct regular supplier audits to assess quality systems, manufacturing processes, and adherence to specifications.
• Monitor and analyze supplier performance metrics, defect trends, and scrap levels to drive continuous improvement and ensure production continuity.
• Collaborate with suppliers to resolve quality issues, implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and improve overall performance.
• Coordinate with engineering, purchasing, and operations to ensure purchased materials meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
• Analyze engineering specifications and customer expectations to define sourcing and quality requirements.
• Drive supplier development initiatives to improve quality, cost efficiency, delivery performance, and process capability.
• Investigate manufacturing costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction, value improvement, and strategic sourcing.
• Identify, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers to support business objectives, including dual sourcing strategies.
• Ensure supplier manufacturing processes comply with regulatory, customer, and internal quality standards.
• Lead supplier-related quality projects from initiation through implementation, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
• Prepare and maintain documentation, including audit reports, performance scorecards, and quality records.
• Develop and deliver supplier quality training for internal teams and external partners.
• Recommend improvements to purchasing and quality systems, processes, and tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
• Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to company policies and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
Experience & Skills:
• Experience in a manufacturing environment
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
• Exceptional attention to detail and organization skills with the ability to perform multiple tasks and obtain results working within strict time frames. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel; pivot tables, statistical trending, data analysis, etc.
Preferred Skills:
• ASQ Certified Supplier Quality Professional (CSQP) or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
• Electrical and Mechanical assembly experience
• Statistical software knowledge (Minitab)
• Ability to navigate an array of computer programs.
• Experience in an ISO 9001:2015 manufacturing environment.
• Industry Quality (PPAP, ISO/TS) and Advanced Product Quality Planning experience.
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (electrical/electronic, mechanical, material science) or Materials Management with 3 years of experience in quality-related operations or materials sourcing management.
