Job DescriptionWoods Hole Oceanographic Institution is inviting applications for eighteen-month Postdoctoral Scholarships that are designed to extend the education and training of the applicants and to advance their research careers. Awards are granted to new and recent doctorates (within 3 years) in oceanography, chemistry, engineering, geology, geophysics, mathematics, meteorology, physics, biology, economics, marine policy, and any field that may contribute to WHOI’s core mission.
In 2027, Special Postdoctoral Scholarships will also be awarded in Marine Policy and Ocean Carbon Cycling. Additional awards may be available to support appointments in cross-cutting topics that are aligned with WHOI’s Campaign for Our Ocean that grow scholarly expertise in emerging areas of institutional strength. These areas may include Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Coral Reefs, Defense-related Science and Technology, and Underwater Acoustics.
Criteria for awards include demonstrated research independence, productivity and novelty, and contributions to institutional research areas. Recipients will pursue their own research interests, mentored by resident staff. Applicants should identify and contact members of the Scientific and Senior Research Staff within one or more of our scientific departments, who share similar research ideas and are willing to serve as mentors.
Applications are due by October 15, 2026.
