Job Summary
We are seeking a Greenhouse Technician for a hands-on plant science opportunity in Memphis, TN. This role supports agricultural biotechnology research through plant sampling, greenhouse maintenance, and care of engineered cotton plants in a greenhouse and headhouse environment.
This is a great opportunity for candidates with entry-level greenhouse, horticulture, landscaping, gardening, or plant care experience who want to build practical experience in biological research, agriculture, and plant science. The Greenhouse Technician will work in a team-oriented onsite environment where attention to detail, reliability, and a positive work ethic are highly valued.
You will play an important role in supporting plant growth, tissue sampling, and research activities tied to trait introgression initiatives. The position offers steady hands-on work, collaboration with others, and exposure to agricultural research processes in a professional greenhouse setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect genetically engineered plant tissue samples for DNA and protein testing to help identify desired plant traits.
- Plant engineered cotton seeds and maintain suitable growing conditions for healthy plant development.
- Prepare buffer solutions and assist with protein extraction from cotton leaf samples.
- Support plant selection, transplanting, placement, crossing, pruning, harvesting, and general plant care.
- Perform greenhouse maintenance tasks including watering, fertilizing, cleaning, hanging harvest bags, re-clipping, stringing plants, and trash removal.
- Work safely and accurately in a hot greenhouse environment while following established procedures and quality expectations.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay Rate: $20.00 per hour.
- Location: Memphis, TN.
- Work Arrangement: 100% onsite in a greenhouse and headhouse environment.
- Assignment Length: 12-month assignment to start, with potential to extend up to 24 months.
- Screening Requirement: Drug screening required. No additional medical exams are required.

- Ability to stand for long periods of time and work in a hot greenhouse environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures accurately.
- Ability to work well with others in a team setting while also completing tasks independently.
- Reliable, organized, and comfortable performing repetitive and physically active tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor's degree in Botany, Biology, or a related life sciences field.
- Prior greenhouse, horticulture, plant sampling, or agricultural research experience.
- Experience working with cotton plants, plant tissue samples, or basic lab preparation tasks.
- Interest in agriculture, biotechnology, plant science, or biological research.
