An entry level pilot car driver is responsible for escorting oversized vehicles or loads on the road, ensuring the safety of the load, the transport crew, and the general public. They drive a separate vehicle, often equipped with signs and lights, ahead of or behind the oversized load to warn other motorists and assist with navigation. Entry level pilot car drivers typically start with basic training, learning regulations and procedures for different states, and may work under the supervision of more experienced drivers.
