Job description

About Us

At Heart to Heart International we are committed to strengthening communities through equitable access to healthcare and humanitarian support. As a mission-driven nonprofit, we believe financial stewardship is key to maximizing impact and fostering trust with our donors, partners, and the communities we serve. Through our Disaster Response Program, HHI delivers medical aid, supplies, and skilled volunteers to communities impacted by natural disasters and crises—both in the United States and around the world.

Position Summary

Heart to Heart International is building a roster of contract-based photographers and videographers to support rapid disaster response deployments. These professionals play a critical role in documenting the impact of disasters and HHI’s humanitarian response efforts in real time.

Selected individuals will be placed on a standby roster and contacted when deployment needs arise. When activated, photographers/videographers may deploy alongside Disaster Assessment Teams or Medical/Operations Disaster Response Teams to capture compelling visual storytelling from the field.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Capture high-quality photos and video documenting disaster impact and response efforts

o Disaster destruction and affected environments

o Distribution of hygiene kits and humanitarian aid

o Emergency Medical Team and Mobile Medical Vehicles in action (setup, patient care, team coordination)

o Survivor stories (with consent)

o Interviews with volunteers, partners, and HHI staff

o Provide written captions, context, and metadata for all submitted content

o Obtain and manage signed photo/video releases from all identifiable subjects

o Capture specific requested content for donor communications and storytelling

o Take headshots of each Disaster Response team member and group photos of deployed teams

  • Collaborate with HHI Marketing & Communications team on pre-deployment shot lists and daily priorities
  • Deliver edited and captioned visual content to HHI headquarters daily (same day or within 24 hours)
  • Maintain professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and ethical storytelling standards in all environments

Qualifications

  • Prior professional experience in photography and/or videography required
  • Strong technical skills in capturing high-quality visual content in dynamic environments
  • Ability to deploy domestically and/or internationally with as little as 48 hours’ notice
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines (often same day turnaround)
  • Experience uploading and transferring large media files in low-resource environments
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to engage respectfully with disaster-affected populations
  • Willingness and ability to interview subjects to gather accurate caption details
  • Experience with social media platforms and storytelling preferred
  • Disaster Response storytelling experience is a plus
  • Video editing skills are a plus

Training & Onboarding

Selected roster members must complete:

  • HHI’s onboarding requirements – background check, drug screen, and complete interviews
  • HHI’s just-in-time Disaster Response training provided at time of deployment
  • Pre-deployment documentation
  • Country specific vaccination requirements
  • Valid passport with an expiration date no less than 1 year of contract.

Additional Information

  • This is a contract-based, on-call role with no guarantee of deployment
  • Roster members will be contacted based on response needs and alignment with required skills
  • Compensation will be determined on a per-deployment basis and agreed upon in advance
  • Applicants are applying to join a standby roster, not for immediate placement
  • Supplying a portfolio is a plus

By submitting your application, you will maintain a professional profile with HHI, ensuring your information is current and readily available for rapid deployment consideration. The roster is reviewed and updated regularly.
