Job description

Where You'll Work
CHI Health St. Mary's has served Nebraska City and the surrounding areas since 1927. In the fall of 2014, St. Mary's opened the doors of a brand-new, fully modernized facility. The new 110,000-square-foot campus is better equipped to meet the changing needs of our community with, among other benefits, an increased capacity for specialty clinics and an integrated primary care clinic. St. Mary's encourages collaboration and care coordination among primary care physicians and medical specialists. This contributes to the high quality of care our patients have come to expect.
Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Patient Access Representative, you will play a critical role in the revenue cycle at Saint Mary's Community Hospital, serving as a primary point of contact for patients and their families. This position is vital for ensuring a seamless patient experience by accurately managing registration, scheduling, and admitting workflows. You will join a dedicated healthcare team, acting as an essential liaison who upholds our organizational values while maintaining strict compliance with HIPAA, privacy standards, and regulatory requirements.
Every day you will handle high-volume administrative tasks, including patient data capture, insurance eligibility verification, and the processing of medical records within our electronic health record (EHR) system. You will utilize your technical skills to identify and resolve registration or insurance discrepancies, escalate complex issues according to established protocols, and provide professional support via telephone and digital channels. Additionally, you will communicate patient financial responsibilities-such as estimates and liabilities-and facilitate payment collections at the time of service, all while maintaining a welcoming and organized environment to ensure efficient clinic operations.
To be successful in this role, you should have a solid foundation in medical registration procedures, health insurance payer knowledge, and real-time eligibility verification. We are seeking a detail-oriented professional with strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and data entry) and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Your commitment to patient-centered service, ability to adapt to cross-functional workflows, and dedication to maintaining clinical confidentiality will make you an invaluable asset to our facility.
  • Comprehensive Patient Registration: Manage the end-to-end registration process by accurately capturing demographic information, performing insurance eligibility verification, and ensuring all documentation is completed correctly within the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Financial Coordination & Collections: Proactively communicate patient financial responsibilities, including estimated liabilities, and facilitate the collection of payments at the time of service to support revenue cycle goals.
  • Scheduling & Workflow Management: Coordinate patient appointments and clinical schedules while actively identifying and resolving routine registration or insurance discrepancies to ensure seamless access to care.
  • Professional Patient Support: Serve as a primary point of contact for patients, families, and internal departments, providing high-quality service, answering inquiries, and routing communications with professional, patient-centered care.
