Job Summary
The RN Nurse Residency is for newly graduated Registered Nurses with less than one year of nursing experience.
This year-long program includes:
  • 10-12 PAID weeks of 1:1 Precepted Experiences within Lexington Health Physician Network practices

    • Care Coordination & Population Health
    • Telephone Triage & Clinical Decision Making
    • Patient Education & Chronic Disease Management
    • Time Management/Conflict Resolution
  • Completion of an Evidence-Based Project with Implementation Opportunity
  • Scheduled Support Meetings with the Residency Coordinators

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education:
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school within past one year is preferred.
  • Entry-level nurses serving in their first nursing role are required to participate in the Nurse Residency Program.
  • Entry-level nurses who are not in their first nursing role may participate in the Nurse Residency Program at the discretion of the program leadership team.
    • However, no longer than 12 months shall elapse from the time of graduation from the prelicensure nursing program to admission into the Nurse Residency Program.
  • ADN, BSN, or MEPN degrees accepted.

*New graduate RNs who acquire their generic RN education through an online program will not meet Lexington Health minimum qualifications.
Required Certifications/Licensure:
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure through South Carolina (or multi-compact state)
    OR
  • Graduate Nurse (GN) licensure through South Carolina
    • If hired with GN licensure, must pass NCLEX-RN by GN license expiration date to continue in the Nurse Residency Program.
  • Current BLS certification.

Responsibilities
  • Immediately inform Management of receipt of official licensure notification by the Board of Nursing, denial of permanent licensure by the Board of Nursing, failure of NCLEX, revocation of temporary authorization, or any criminal charges (other than minor traffic offenses).
  • Flexibility to work office hours and rotate to different Physician Network practice locations based on operational needs.
  • While completing the RN Nurse Residency Program, the Nurse Resident will be expected to adhere to the following organizational standards:
    • Patient Care and Support
      • Establishes positive rapport with patients, families, providers, and team members to create a compassionate, confidential, and patient-centered environment.
      • Assists physicians and advanced practice providers in delivering quality outpatient care.
      • Performs patient assessments, obtains health histories, and documents clinical information accurately.
      • Provides patient education regarding medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, preventive care, and self-management strategies.
      • Coordinates care through referrals, follow-up appointments, diagnostic testing, and communication with other healthcare providers.
      • Performs nursing procedures including medication administration, injections, specimen collection, phlebotomy, wound care, and other clinical duties within scope of practice.
      • Utilizes ethical decision-making and advocates for safe, effective patient outcomes.
    • Clinical Work Quality
      • Delivers safe, high-quality ambulatory nursing care in accordance with Lexington Health policies, nursing standards, regulatory requirements, and physician orders.
      • Demonstrates clinical judgment during telephone triage and in-person patient encounters.
      • Maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation within the electronic medical record.
      • Adheres to infection prevention, medication safety, and clinical quality standards.
      • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice activities.
      • Maintains exam rooms, clinical supplies, and equipment to support efficient patient care.
    • Resource Management
      • Maintains clinical equipment through routine inspections and proper use.
      • Assists with inventory management and supply ordering.
      • Supports efficient clinic workflow through collaboration with providers and office staff.
      • Assists with scheduling, referrals, prior authorizations, and coordination of patient services as appropriate.
      • Performs environmental and safety checks in accordance with Lexington Health policies.
    • Professional Responsibilities
      • Meets or exceeds Lexington Health attendance and service expectations.
      • Maintains required certifications and licensure.
      • Completes annual safety training and mandatory education.
      • Complies with employee health requirements.
      • Earns a minimum of 15 hours of continuing education annually within specialty.
      • Participates in residency educational sessions, mentoring opportunities, and professional development activities throughout the program.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
