The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Opto-Mechanical Technician in Experimental Operations support operation of target positioners, target diagnostics, and vacuum systems on the OMEGA laser system.
An Opto-Mechanical technician is responsible for maintenance, repairs, and calibration of scientific equipment ensuring the proper functionality and readiness of optical and mechanical systems.
We are looking for someone who is excited to learn, exceptionally reliable, and attentive to detail.

Essential Functions:

The technical specialist is responsible for:

  • Completing qualification and standing watch in the operation of highly specialized equipment for supporting operations on the Omega laser facility.
  • Performing maintenance per procedure and troubleshooting equipment issues as well as providing oversight to junior operators
  • Maintaining radiological containment areas.
  • Serving as instrument specialist for advanced system hardware and performing advanced calibration procedures with oversight.
  • Working with Engineering team members to resolve ongoing issues or perform equipment upgrades/improvements.


Minimum Education & Experience:

  • Associate's degree and 3 years of relevant experience in a technical position required.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Must obtain a security clearance
  • Qualifying as a NYS Radiation Worker.
  • Performing duties off normal hours as scheduled.
  • Have experience with repairing mechanical systems (including vacuum or pressurized systems) preferred
  • Have experience performing radiological management activities preferred.
  • Have experience using control software or working with PLC control systems preferred.
  • Are Proficient in Microsoft Office with the ability to learn additional software preferred.
  • Experience working in a team or leading a team is a plus
