Entry Level Vision Automation Engineer
CSI is seeking entry level vision automation engineers to join our growing team in Lansing, MI. Looking for individuals with a willingness to learn, a passion for vision automation, a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • ??????Assist with the design, development, testing, integration, and commissioning of industrial machine-vision applications.
  • Configure industrial cameras, lenses, lighting, sensors, and related vision hardware.
  • Develop and modify 2D and 3D machine-vision inspections using commercial vision platforms and/or image-processing libraries.
  • Perform image acquisition, preprocessing, feature extraction, measurement, pattern matching, segmentation, and defect-detection tasks.
  • Assist with laboratory feasibility testing and collect representative sample images and measurement data.
  • Document test results and communicate observed limitations or inconsistencies to senior engineers.
  • Assist in the integration of vision applications with PLCs, robots, HMIs, and other automation systems.
  • Test inspection performance using representative production samples.
  • Support machine debugging, runoff, installation, and production launch activities.
  • Travel to customer manufacturing facilities as required for installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Participate in customer and internal technical discussions, clearly communicate project status and observed technical issues, and escalate feasibility concerns or application risks as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, Robotics, Physics, Optical Engineering, or a related technical discipline; or a High School Diploma/GED with relevant hands-on experience in industrial automation, machine vision, controls, robotics, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of digital imaging and machine-vision concepts, including resolution, exposure, focus, field of view, contrast, and image formation.
  • Programming experience through professional work, internships, university projects, or personal projects using a language such as Python, C#, C++, MATLAB, or similar.
  • Familiarity with basic image-processing concepts such as thresholding, filtering, edge detection, feature extraction, segmentation, and coordinate systems.
  • Strong analytical and hands-on troubleshooting ability.
  • Ability to read technical documentation and learn unfamiliar hardware and software independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel to customer manufacturing facilities and participate in equipment installation, testing, runoff, and commissioning.
  • Preferred
  • Internship, coursework, research, or project experience involving machine vision, computer vision, robotics, automation, or imaging.
  • Familiarity with OpenCV, Zebra Aurora Vision Studio, Cognex, Keyence, HALCON, or another vision platform.
  • Exposure to industrial cameras and machine-vision related hardware.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, industrial robots, or industrial automation.
  • Exposure to 3D imaging or laser profilometry.
  • Automotive or manufacturing experience.
  • A3 CVP - Basic certification.
