Job description

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.

This position is being added to support continued growth of the Sargent & Lundy Consulting group, which regularly provides technical and financial due diligence, planning and advisory services, asset transaction support, project development services, and owner’s engineering services; primarily within the energy sector. This position will require interaction with utilities, power project developers, investors, technology companies, and financial institutions during the execution of consulting services work for the firm.

Common responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and review financial models for planned new energy projects, including feasibility studies, asset transactions, project development, and capital budgeting
  • Perform due diligence evaluations of power projects, including greenfield projects, refinancing, and acquisitions
  • Develop operation and maintenance cost estimates for existing power plants and proposed capital improvements
  • Perform feasibility studies for proposed power projects or to compare alternative power plant technologies and cogeneration
  • Prepare economic evaluations to assess potential power plant retirements and/or replacements

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or engineering.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Financial modeling of power projects and energy infrastructure
  • Technical knowledge in multiple power generation technologies – solar, battery energy storage, wind, nuclear, and thermal power
  • Experience in calculating revenue requirements for existing and new power plants or T&D assets
  • Long-term power supply and transmission planning project experience
  • Data centers, oil & gas infrastructure, or desalination project experience

In this role, we expect people to be willing or able to solve problems using modern tools:

  • You are expected to take engineering problems from issue to solution using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
  • Many engineers in these roles build or use automation to create calculations, summarize technical documents, or draft design documentation, including appropriate use of agentic AI tools, with strong engineering judgment and verification of results.
  • Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation is valued but not required.
  • We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that helps you apply automation or agentic AI to real engineering problems.
