Job description

This is a key entry level position within our manufacturing facility which produces quality food products for our customers. Ensures through established testing methods that products meet the specifications of customer defined targets and to work to reduce the variability around these targets.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs various product tests by testing batches, conducting taste test on finished product; checking ingredients and recipes; and logging results and correcting any discrepancies.
  • Perform audits of products including batch controls, component weights, finished weights, along with various other checks, and collect samples of raw materials, in process products and finished products as required.
  • Communicates with key personnel within the organization regarding the status of ingredients and product; maintains contracts outside the organization for the specifications and requirements of raw materials; also provides support to other quality assurance functions as needed.
  • Manages raw ingredients through inspections; prepares hold reports and hold tags; informs necessary personnel and/or departments to determine the disposition of items on hold.
  • Completes necessary daily duties such as entering daily production data into the computer, filing paperwork, and completing various reports.
  • Evaluating hazards, verification of measures and procedures that should be taken to achieve a safe work environment.
  • Ensuring daily adherence to the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) Regulations
  • All other duties assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education/Certifications and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of quality experience in food or pharmaceutical manufacturing preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carryout instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to effectively train others.
  • Must be able to read work documents in English.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Work involves daily and frequent exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, odors, darkness and/or poor lighting, noise, and vibration. Seasonal exposure to weather elements to include, but not limited to, extreme temperatures, wetness, and humidity.
  • Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks and hazards, such as working around mechanical equipment, mechanical hazards, forklifts, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, fire and explosives hazards, communicable diseases.
  • Position requires the ability to stand; walking around office, warehouse, and plant; lifting and carrying packages up to 50 pounds; utilizing fine dexterity; and reaching, kneeling, crawling, and twisting on a daily basis. Also requires the ability to see; hear; and communicate with associates as well as others by utilizing professional etiquette.
  • Bump caps, safety glasses, goggles, gloves, ear plugs, lockout devices, fall protection and any other personal protective equipment, as defined by C.H. Guenther and Son will be provided.
  • Work involves frequent exposure to time pressures, frequent change of tasks, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, tedious, and exacting work, irregular work schedule and/ or overtime, noisy and/or distracting environment, working closely with others as part of a team, and on rare occasion's emergency situations.
