Job description

Overview
The Newport Engineering Office (NEO) is seeking an entry level Test Engineer to become a member of the Commissioned Submarine Backfit and Modernization Team. This is an opportunity to work in a collaborative environment with a diverse group of engineers and non-degreed engineering personnel, who possess a strong reputation for producing quality ship's design products that greatly support the US NAVY.
The team applies diversified engineering skills, leads teams of engineering and design personnel which produce ship's design products in support of Non-Propulsion Electronic Systems (NPES) Ship Alterations (SHIPALT) implementation onboard OHIO, VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA classes of submarines. Engineering personnel will also interface with customers and/or end users such as NAVSEA PMS392 and PMS396, NUWC Codes 25, 34 and NPES Participating Acquisition Resource Managers (PARM). Occasional travel is required.
NEO is committed to mentoring one another, emphasizing employee growth, and providing advancement opportunities as the key to the success of the group. The candidate will have the opportunity to become a Lead Engineer and the responsibility to define the system, work package, project, or tasking.
NEO is located in a small corporate park with plenty of parking and is close to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC), local housing, restaurants, and shops. NEO is within driving distance to Providence, Boston, Cape Cod, and Connecticut.
Qualifications
Required:
  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • 2-6 years of Military (Navy) or electrical shipyard experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance through the Department of Defense

Preferred:
  • Submarine qualified Forward Electronics rating or testing experience in a shipyard environment working NPES
  • Experience with Submarine Ship Alterations and Engineering Changes

Skills
  • Candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter with excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products and be able to work independently as well as in a dynamic team environment.
  • Ability to plan, organize, schedule work, multi-task, and to direct others to accomplish tasks is required.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documentation (e.g. Design drawings, Engineering Changes, Technical Manuals, etc.).
  • Experience working effectively both independently and in a team environment
