Job description

A leading food manufacturer and supplier in Tukwila is hiring a Label Compliance/Food Labeling Specialist to join its regulatory and quality team.

As a Label Compliance Specialist, you'll make sure what's printed on the package matches what's actually in it. You'll review labels, packaging artwork, and specification sheets against approved formulas — checking ingredient statements, allergen declarations, nutrition facts, product claims, and prep instructions for accuracy before anything goes to print or hits shelves.

You'll work under the Regulatory Compliance Manager and coordinate across Regulatory, Quality Assurance, R&D, Marketing, Operations, and outside vendors to track down the information you need. This is a role built for someone growing into compliance work: you'll learn the regulatory side with guidance and support rather than being expected to make complex compliance decisions independently.

Compensation: $34-$37/hr

Start date: Early September (or sooner).

Duration: You'll train alongside the current team member through October before she begins a leave of absence. The assignment runs approximately 5–6 months, with real potential to extend or convert to permanent as our client continues to grow, including plans for a future production facility.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. Hybrid: Mondays/Fridays remote and Tuesdays–Thursdays onsite. Training will be a mix of onsite and hybrid.

What you'll do

  • Review product labels, packaging artwork, proofs, tags, prep instructions, and related marketing materials for accuracy against approved specifications and company standards.
  • Verify label elements: product name, net weight, ingredient statements, allergen declarations, nutrition facts panels, bioengineered food disclosures, claims, cooking and storage instructions, and distributor information.
  • Support the creation, maintenance, and organization of product specification sheets for company brands and customer-facing documentation.
  • Compare artwork and labeling information against approved formulas, vendor documents, nutrition data, allergen information, and internal specifications to identify discrepancies.
  • Route labeling questions, potential compliance concerns, and escalations to the Regulatory Compliance Manager or Regulatory Specialist for direction.
  • Track label review status, outstanding information, revision history, approvals, and open action items using department tools.
  • Coordinate with Marketing, R&D, Quality Assurance, Operations, Supply Chain, and third-party vendors to gather the information needed for label and specification reviews.
  • Maintain labeling files, artwork records, regulatory documentation, and vendor documentation so everything stays organized and retrievable.
  • Support factory-level Quality Assurance teams with labeling guidance, documentation, and follow-up on corrections and implementation questions.
  • Support label and specification updates driven by formula changes, supplier changes, packaging changes, regulatory updates, or process improvements.
  • Enter and verify data in labeling, specification, and project management systems including Genesis R&D, Access, Ziflow, and Zoho.
  • Prepare clear comments, redlines, and follow-up notes for artwork revisions and label corrections.
  • Monitor assigned projects and communicate delays, missing information, or potential risks to the Regulatory Compliance Manager promptly.
  • Perform other labeling, documentation, quality, and compliance support duties as assigned.

What we're looking for

Required:

  • Food industry background, ideally with exposure to food labeling — 1–2 years of experience in food labeling, quality assurance, regulatory support, food manufacturing, or product documentation, and/or a degree in food science, nutrition, or a related field
  • Strong attention to detail — this role lives in the fine print
  • Clear written and verbal communication with both internal teams and outside partners
  • Proficiency with MS Office and Outlook
  • Ability to follow established processes, manage multiple projects, and flag issues early
