Job description

Field Engineer

This position involves working on multiple commercial construction projects, many of them high-profile, throughout the Kansas City Metro Area.

General Responsibilities:
The Field Engineer will perform observations and tests on construction materials in an outdoor environment. While on assignment, the Field Engineer will communicate with Project Managers, client’s representatives, contractor’s representatives, and the design team regarding testing and inspection results. Transport material samples with associated identifying documentation to the laboratory for further testing and analysis. Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observations in the form of written and digital reports as necessary.

Successful candidates will receive in-depth technical training and opportunities to obtain professional certifications as they advance in the position. Solid Ground Engineering, LLC has created a proprietary, credential-based wage calculator that takes into account certifications earned, number of years in the industry, and other valuable qualifications. The same calculator is utilized for all technicians, ensuring fairness and objectivity.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

· Travel to and from projects as they are assigned, utilizing a company vehicle.

· Perform tests and observations of soils, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel, asphalt, structural steel welding, structural steel bolting, wood framing, commercial roofing, epoxy installation procedures, and building envelope components.

· Document and prepare sample testing and observation data using a tablet device and phone application; submit findings promptly and accurately to a Project Manager and effectively communicate testing and inspection results.

· Ensure that all testing equipment and tools are properly calibrated and maintained.

· Follow safety rules and practice safety requirements for all projects. Report any safety issues or concerns.

· Maintain quality standards on all projects and work cohesively as a team.

· Transport materials safely from various job sites to the lab using a company vehicle.

Required:

· EIT (Engineer in Training).

· ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade 1.

· Radiation Safety and Nuclear Density Gauge User certifications.

· Minimum 1 year of relevant experience or the equivalent in related experience.

· Must be able to work in Microsoft Word and Excel using a desktop, laptop, and tablet.

· Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history (No DUIs or DWIs).

· Must be able to pass drug screening and agree to a background check.

· Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds safely.

· Must be willing to work in varying weather conditions.

· Must be able to climb ladders.

Preferred, but not required:

Certification(s) in:

· American Welding Society (AWS), Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).

· NICET Level II for Soils.

This position is Full-time, Part-time, or Flex-time.

Solid Ground Engineering is a small, third-party, independent special inspections firm based in Overland Park, KS. We perform special inspections on commercial roofing, wood framing, building envelope, structural steel, masonry, concrete, soil & asphalt compaction, and more. We support the builders and building owners by identifying potential problems and deviations to their city-approved drawings.
