Job description
A leading geotechnical engineering firm in the St. Louis metro area seeks an Engineering Field Technician - Construction Materials Tester (CMT) to join our growing team. This entry-level position provides on-the-job training for candidates interested in construction quality control and materials testing. You'll perform field and laboratory testing on concrete, soil, asphalt, and aggregate materials across commercial and infrastructure projects throughout the region.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - ENGINEERING FIELD TECHNICIAN (CMT)
- Perform field quality control tests on plastic concrete including slump, air content, and cylinder preparation
- Conduct field density testing on soil, asphalt, and aggregate using nuclear density gauges
- Execute routine laboratory tests on construction materials per ASTM and AASHTO standards
- Prepare written daily field observation reports and project summary documentation
- Obtain and maintain required safety certifications within specified timeframes
QUALIFICATIONS - ENGINEERING FIELD TECHNICIAN (CMT)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record and ability to operate company vehicles
- Capability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly
- Proficiency with commonly used computer software programs and reporting systems
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions with extended standing and walking
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS TESTING TECHNICIAN
- ACI (American Concrete Institute) Level I certification or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Nuclear Density Gauge (Troxler) certification and operational experience
- NICET or ICC certification is a plus
- Previous field experience in construction material testing or soil sampling
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - ENGINEERING FIELD TECHNICIAN (CMT)
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout work shifts
- Manual dexterity to control, handle, and operate testing equipment with hands and fingers
- Physical capability to lift, push, and pull materials up to 50 pounds when necessary
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions at active construction sites
- Local travel within St. Louis metro area required; reliable transportation necessary
