Hilo Benioff Medical Center's Extended Care (Intermediate Care) department is seeking compassionate and dedicated Certified Nurse Aides (Entry Level and Full Performance) to join our long-term care team. In this role, you’ll provide hands-on, direct patient care that supports comfort, dignity, and safety for our friends, family, and neighbors. Candidates hired into casual hire (part-time) positions will be required to work a minimum of 24 hours per week during the first six weeks of employment for training, including day, evening and night shifts.

Key Job Duties

• Provide direct personal care, including bathing, toileting, grooming, feeding, positioning, and mobility assistance.
• Measure, observe, and accurately document vital signs, intake and output, and changes in patient condition.
• Assist with patient transfers, transport, and range-of-motion activities using proper body mechanics and equipment.
• Support meals and nutrition by preparing patients for meals and assisting with feeding as needed.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and well-stocked patient care environment while following infection control and safety policies.
• Communicate respectfully and compassionately with patients, families, and the healthcare team.

Entry Level Job Requirements

• Current State of Hawaiʻi Nurse Aide Certificate (required for SNF/ICF positions).
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand simple English instructions.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts and in various care settings or units.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Heartsaver certification required within six (6) months of hire.
• Demonstrated patience, respect for patient rights, emotional stability, and teamwork skills.

Full Performance Level Job Requirements

• All Entry Level Requirements listed above, plus:
  • One (1) year of experience providing direct patient care in a hospital, long-term care, or similar healthcare setting or completion of a practical or professional nursing program.
  • Ability to independently provide age-specific care, recognize abnormal signs and symptoms, and report findings appropriately.
  • Working knowledge of infection control, patient safety, restorative care, and basic medical terminology.
  • Strong observation, documentation, and communication skills with the ability to work independently under general supervision.

* Rates listed for paid holidays, vacation and sick days are for 1.0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) positions assigned to 8 hour shifts. Accruals for these benefits are otherwise prorated based on FTE.

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen.  The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
