Location: Cincinnati, Ohio, Hybrid
Department: Finance & Accounting
Reports To: Controller
Experience Required: 1–2 Years

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant is an entry level role responsible for supporting the day-to‑day accounting operations of the organization by maintaining accurate financial records, filing sales and use tax returns, preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and assisting with month‑end and year‑end close activities. This role provides an excellent opportunity for a motivated accounting professional to develop technical accounting skills while contributing to the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger.
  • File monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual sales and use tax.
  • Perform monthly bank, balance sheet, and account reconciliations.
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed assets and prepaid expense schedules.
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities as needed.
  • Review financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Prepare financial reports, schedules, and supporting analyses for management.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests by gathering documentation and supporting schedules.
  • Monitor and investigate accounting discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Maintain organized accounting records and documentation.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and internal controls.
Qualifications Education
  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
Experience
  • 1–2 years of accounting experience
  • Internship experience may be considered toward the experience requirement.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Understanding of accounting principles and GAAP.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and basic financial analysis.
  • Experience with ERP or accounting systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Progress toward bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience supporting audits and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience working with government contracting, project accounting, or federal compliance requirements.
