University of the Incarnate Word is a Catholic institution that welcomes to its community persons of diverse backgrounds, in the belief that their respectful interaction advances the discovery of truth, mutual understanding, self-realization, and the common good.
Position Summary
The Student Music Minister is part of a team that serves at the 11 AM Mass as a member of and musical leader for the Laudate Choir. As a leadership team member of the Music Ministry, the Music Minister also serves at major university liturgies and prayer events sponsored by University Mission and Ministry.
Essential Functions
  • Ministerial presence and service at the 11 AM Sunday Mass.
  • Serves at major university liturgies and prayer events sponsored by UMM.
  • Fosters a sense of community, service and ministerial investment within the members of the Laudate Choir, and Music Ministry as a whole.
  • Supports the spiritual growth of the Music Ministry and Campus Ministry through the participation in, and planning of, retreats.
  • Assists the DMM and Liturgy & Music Assistant in establishing a communal repertoire of sung prayer for the university community.
  • Assists the DMM and Liturgy & Music Assistant in administrative duties such as, but not limited to: communication within the choir, weekly rehearsal plan, copyright filing, maintaining music, assisting with area fellowship gatherings.
  • Practices their craft regularly to ensure preparation for rehearsals and liturgical prayer.
  • Attends Music Ministry and Divisional Formation Sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to proficiently read music: identify rhythms and pitches, including matching pitch.
  • Applied skills in voice, guitar, piano, or another instrument.
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Openness and self-motivation to seek out opportunities that will supplement and broaden the minister's entry level experience/knowledge of music/liturgical ministry.

Required Education
Current UIW student.
Required Work Experience
Previous experience singing or playing in a music ministry, choral ensemble, or instrumental ensemble such as a band or choir (e.g. parish choir, UIW Cardinal Chorale/Singers, UIW Laudate Choir).
