Job Location: Orangeburg, SC

Work schedule: M-TH 4X10

This entry-level System Planning Engineering Technician will need an Associate's degree in Engineering Design Technology or other power engineering related program with coursework or experience in electric utility design and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. As a McCall-Thomas Engineering Tech, you will be joining a team of dedicated individuals committed to our mission of providing quality solutions and services to our clients.


The primary responsibilities for this role will include:

  • Distribution System Planning, Construction Work Plans, Long Range Plans, RUS Standards, Electrical design,System Impact Studies, Coordination Studies, Arc Flash analysis, and other distribution design requirements for electric utilities
  • Client interaction related to data needs, work schedules and status
  • Load Forecasts
  • Engineering analysis and reports
  • Working with the Electrical Division team members and Marketing to expand client base and obtain additional projects
  • Responsibility for the accuracy, completeness, and profitability of projects you are overseeing
  • Oral presentations as required
  • Assisting with proposals, project estimates and scheduling as required
  • Travel and overnight stay will be a requirement for certain projects or marketing visits with clients
  • Secondary responsibilities may include:
    • AutoCAD work
    • Contract development work
    • Relay drawing work
    • Field work at substations or distribution systems

    What Will You Need (Required):

    • Eligibility to work in the US without sponsorship (required)
    • Associate's degree in Engineering Design Technology or other electrical power related program, or 2 years of directly related work experience, or 2 years of college coursework toward a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering
    • Experience or coursework in electric power supply
    • Working proficiency with Microsoft Office (or related) products like word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations
    • Versatility and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
    • Willingness and ability to share your knowledge with others
    • Ability to work on a team or independently
    • Willingness and ability to communicate clearly and professionally with others in person and remotely using phone, video meetings, email and texts
    • Valid drivers license with clean driving record


    Qualifications (Preferred):

    • Experience with Engineering Modules like Milsoft Windmil and Light Table, CYME, or SKM
    • Knowledge of various utility construction codes and IEEE standards
    • Ability to accurately complete start to finish construction work plans and long range plans in an efficient manner while remaining within budget and time constraints, and meeting the quality expectations of McCall-Thomas Engineering
