Description
Knox College invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Art to teach courses in drawing, printmaking, and painting beginning September 1, 2022. Applicants should have a record of work demonstrating a relevant and sustained creative practice and exhibits. Studio faculty share a range of departmental work including curriculum development, exhibit planning, studio oversight, and senior mentoring. The normal teaching load is two courses per 10 week trimester.
The Department of Art and Art History is committed to the benefits of teaching art in a comprehensive liberal arts setting. Since 2016, the department has occupied the Whitcomb Art Center, an architecturally innovative facility with spacious, well equipped studios dedicated to each media area. Applicants should have a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary learning in the context of undergraduate education.
Knox is an incredibly diverse college with over 35% of the student body identifying as American students of color and an additional 15% international students. Knox's student body represents a diverse range of ethnic, national, and cultural backgrounds. Applicants should be familiar with, and committed to, inclusive teaching practices. Experience working with diverse populations of students and the ability to teach successfully in a multicultural environment are required.
Visiting faculty members at Knox are included in the professional and intellectual life of the College. Institution-wide responsibilities include advising and committee service. The visiting faculty member will have a modest annual conference travel budget and access to research resources. Salary will be commensurate with entry-level faculty positions at the College.
Qualifications
  • MFA
  • Evidence of successful undergraduate teaching experience.
  • Sustained studio practice and record of exhibits.
