Job description

Why This Role Matters
Search is evolving faster than ever before. People aren't just searching on Google anymore. They are turning to AI engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google Gemini to find answers, services, and products. At Dogwood, our SEO Strategist is the technical engine that ensures our clients' websites stay ahead of the curve, rank at the top, and get found where modern audiences are looking.
This is a 100% internal, highly focused role based in our office. You won't be managing client meetings, dealing with external accounts, or handling sales. Instead, you get to put your head down, master cutting-edge tools, and do the actual work that drives real, measurable organic traffic and rankings.
One Role, Core Responsibilities
In this role, you will be our internal authority on search visibility. While you will be fully trained from the ground up, your day-to-day focus will center on three key pillars:
1. The Modern SEO & GEO Pioneer (Search & AI Integration)
Traditional SEO isn't dead, but AI search is taking over. You will be on the front lines of Generative Engine Optimization (GEO).
  • Master AI Tools: You will leverage cutting-edge AI software and search engines to analyze data, streamline keyword research, and optimize content faster and smarter.
  • Position for AI Search: Work on strategic optimizations so our clients appear as primary citations and recommendations inside AI-driven search models.
  • Stay Ahead of Trends: Continually learn and adapt as search algorithms and AI tech evolve daily.

2. Technical & On-Page Execution
You are responsible for ensuring websites perform at their absolute best, both behind the scenes and on the page.
  • On-Page Optimization: Audit and optimize meta tags, page structure, internal linking, headers, and site content.
  • User & Search Alignment: Ensure the site architecture and content align with modern search intent.
  • Hands-on CMS Work: Jump into site backend platforms to apply strategic updates.

3. Internal Collaborator & Reporter
You work directly with our internal team to keep our projects moving smoothly.
  • Collaborate with Specialists: Partner with our Web Development team, Ad Specialists, and Content Creators to make sure everyone is pulling in the same direction for site performance.
  • Own the Data: Track rankings, organic traffic, and visibility metrics to build internal reports that prove ROI to our team leads.

What You'll Do (And How We Team Up)
  • Execute Directly: Perform keyword research, on-page SEO tweaks, schema markup setup, and site performance audits for apx. 30 clients on a monthly basis.
  • Optimize via CMS: Apply structural and content updates across client sites (prior experience with WordPress and Elementor is a great bonus, but we will train you!).
  • Train & Master: Learn our internal AI tools and proprietary workflows from day one. No prior expert experience required, just a desire to absorb knowledge.

What This Role Does NOT Include
  • Client management, meetings, phone calls, or external presentations (This is a 100% internal role!)
  • Cold calling, sales, or proposal pricing
  • Managing internal staff as a direct report

Who We Are Looking For (No Degree Required)
We don't care about a checklist of tech jargon or a specific piece of paper. A college degree is not required. We care about curiosity, analytical thinking, and a burning desire to learn. Show us you know how to work with AI without losing the human element that makes us valuable and unique.
Whether you're a recent grad, a career-changer, or someone who loves diving into how technology works, we will gladly take a sharp, hustling self-starter who wants to learn over a traditional veteran any day of the week. We provide the tools and training from the ground up. You bring the work ethic.
The Core Qualities You Must Have:
  • A Curiosity for AI & Tech: You aren't afraid of technology or shifting trends. You are genuinely excited to learn how AI works and how to use it to solve problems.
  • Analytical & Detail-Oriented Mindset: You enjoy digging into data, noticing small details that others miss, and figuring out "why" something works or doesn't work.
  • The "Hustle" & Curiosity Mindset: You are self-motivated, eager to learn new tools quickly, and take pride in figuring out solutions.
  • Strong Written Skills: While you won't be writing PR pieces, clear communication and content optimization require a great grasp of grammar and readability.
  • Natural Organization: You can keep track of multiple site audits, prioritize tasks effectively, and ensure no optimization step drops through the cracks.

Experience with WordPress, Elementor, or baseline digital marketing is a nice bonus, but ownership, drive, and tech-savviness matter most.
Our Culture: Where Work Gets Done Right (And We Have Fun Doing It)
Let's be clear: Dogwood is not a playground.
If you are looking for an agency where people sit around playing games and wasting time all day, this isn't the place for you. Dogwood is where work gets done right, on time, and efficiently. We take immense pride in our work ethic and our high standards.
That said, we love to celebrate our hard work. We are a family-first, tight-knit team that genuinely enjoys being in the office together.
  • We have a stocked kitchen with coffee, sodas, and snacks.
  • We take daily team walks and keep the garage doors open on beautiful spring and fall days.
  • We host an annual get-together at the pool in the summer, friends-giving at Thanksgiving, and our annual Christmas party, sprinkled with other events throughout the year.

Perks & Benefits
  • Competitive starting compensation of $35,000 annually, with a formal performance and compensation review at 90 days to evaluate merit-based increases.
  • Company-paid health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 3% 401(k) match
  • $75,000 company-paid group life policy
  • Insurance opt-out stipend if you don't need coverage
  • Support for professional development, certifications, and continuing education
