About the Role

The Lab Supervisor oversees daily histology operations, leads laboratory staff, coordinates workflow, and supports quality, compliance, and customer service expectations. This position includes hands-on histology duties such as grossing, embedding, microtomy, staining, IHC, special stains, specimen handling, and equipment maintenance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct laboratory employees while supporting daily operations.
  • Coordinate team workflow, priorities, goals, and communication with management.
  • Oversee histology operations, including records, reports, methodology review, training, instrumentation, and compliance.
  • Support tissue preparation for microscopic examination and diagnostic confirmation.
  • Plan day-to-day workload, coordinate assignments, resolve issues, and adjust workflow as needed.
  • Distribute work among histotechnologists and lab aides based on workflow, skill level, and priorities.
  • Manage blocks, slides, requisitions, accessioning, typing, supplies, scheduling coverage, and related laboratory needs.
  • Supervise laboratory customer service, courier coordination, reference laboratory issues, IT/interface troubleshooting, and equipment concerns.
  • Create and maintain policies and procedures as operational changes require.
  • Travel to other locations for lab-related work as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership and business needs.

Specific Duties

  • Perform accessioning, typing, specimen send-outs, and TC component send-outs.
  • Perform grossing, embedding, microtomy, and staining.
  • Prepare and stain histology specimens accurately and on time.
  • Use standard aseptic procedures and required safeguards.
  • Perform IHC and special stains.
  • Control contaminated specimens and waste management processes.
  • Prepare slides and maintain accurate quality control, quality assurance, and patient records.
  • Operate and maintain equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and ensure adequate supplies.
  • Troubleshoot EMR/LIS integration issues and pathology-related office customer service needs.
  • Follow OSHA, HIPAA, and CLIA guidelines.

Qualifications Required

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant histotechnology laboratory experience required.
  • HT or HTL certification a plus
  • Knowledge of programming and operation of general laboratory and automated IHC equipment.
  • Research skills and strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and approach problems and decisions analytically.
  • Ability to maintain records and use microscopes, cryostats, tissue processors, and stainers.
  • Ability and willingness to follow established departmental service standards.

Salary /Schedule/Benefits

  • 2nd shift role with ideal starting time 1pm or 3pm with an 8 hour shift each day
  • $110K–$130K depending on experience
