JOB TITLE: Mechanical Design Engineer

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

REPORTING TO: Chief Technology Officer/CE

Founded in 1955, Piasecki Aircraft Corporation (PiAC) is a research and development business specializing in design, fabrication and flight testing of experimental rotorcraft and unmanned air vehicles. Piasecki has developed and flown more than 25 different advanced VTOL and UAV aircraft and continues to develop cutting-edge vertical flight technologies.

SUMMARY:

The Piasecki Aircraft Corporation Aerospace Mechanical Design Engineer creates, analyzes, and tests aircraft, spacecraft, and UAS components, specializing in structures and mechanisms from concept through production. They utilize CAD software to create 3D models and blueprints, ensuring safety, efficiency, and adherence to structural/regulatory standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Development: Create detailed 3D models and 2D engineering drawings (machined/composite parts) using SW-CAD software.
  • Structural Analysis: Perform kinematic, thermal, stress, inertial and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to ensure component reliability.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Develop and test hardware prototypes, creating test plans, procedures, and reports.
  • Manufacturing Support: Provide manufacturing and technical support for production of products, including assembly, integration, and rigging procedures
  • Documentation: Generate and maintain technical documentation, including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), trade studies, and mass budgets.
  • Collaboration: Work with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and customers for design reviews and project management.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abacus and MATLAB).
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanics, materials science, structural dynamics, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to Travel: Conduct travel to customer and test site location in remote and austere locations
  • Communication: Strong verbal, written and communications skills
