Mechanical Design Engineer - Morbark Division
At Alamo Group, we don't just build equipment - we build futures. As a Design Engineer with our Morbark division, you'll join a team of innovators, problem-solvers, and forward-thinkers who design the machines that shape industries and strengthen communities around the world.
In this role, you'll lead design projects for product modifications and new product development, working hands-on with steel fabrication, weldments, diesel and gasoline engines, drivetrains, hydraulics, and electronic controls. Your work will bring to life a diverse product line - from small, hand-fed tree care chippers and stump grinders to large industrial chippers, horizontal and vertical grinders, flails, and sawmill equipment. If you're energized by solving real-world engineering challenges and want your ideas to have a visible, lasting impact, we'd love to have you on our team.
What You'll Do
  • Lead assigned design and development projects from concept through completion.
  • Partner with sales, production, service, and operations teams, providing the technical support they need to make and meet commitments.
  • Support manufacturing by maintaining and updating prints to ensure configuration control of products as they're built.
  • Pursue your own goals while contributing to department objectives and driving continuous process improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records of system and design changes.
  • Contribute to systems-related troubleshooting and creative problem-solving.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities for our products and our operations.
  • Collaborate with and support other teams and departments as needed.

What You Bring
  • Prior experience in design engineering.
  • A demonstrated ability to identify the right design requirements for a given application or product.
  • Comfort working with a diverse group of employees, suppliers, and customers.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to connect and communicate clearly with people at every level of the organization, from the shop floor to the executive office.
  • Formal problem-solving training and skills.
  • Experience with Solid Edge CAD software is a plus.
  • Project management experience, with the ability to juggle multiple projects at once.
  • Solid working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • A genuine alignment with Alamo Group's Leadership Core Competencies:
    • Communication: You explain, advocate, and express ideas convincingly, and know how to negotiate effectively with individuals and groups, internally and externally. You build strong networks and stay attuned to the issues that impact the business.
    • Business Acumen: You understand business financials and metrics, apply current business strategies, and stay focused on outcomes. You know how to acquire and use human, financial, material, and information resources effectively.
    • Results Driven: You make timely, sound decisions and deliver results through planning, execution, and evaluation of metrics, systems, policies, and programs - with accountability and continuous improvement as your standard.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, ideally in Mechanical Engineering; we'll also consider an associate degree and/or relevant work experience in place of formal education.
  • 1-3 years of design engineering-related experience, including internship or co-op experience.
