Job description

Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Onsite Leander, TX
Compensation: Around $150,000 depending on experience, expertise, and demonstrated performance
Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design, build, test, and deliver mechanical systems that perform reliably in real-world conditions. This role involves full lifecycle ownership of hardware, from early prototypes to production-ready systems.
The engineer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure mechanical components meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Component & System Design
  • Design mechanical components and assemblies with full lifecycle responsibility
  • Perform calculations, tolerance analysis, GD&T, and technical drawings
  • Ensure designs integrate properly with broader systems and load conditions

Mechanisms
  • Design and integrate mechanisms such as linkages, gears, motors, actuators, and structural assemblies

Prototyping & Fabrication
  • Rapidly prototype components using internal tools or external vendors
  • Manage the cycle from CAD fabrication installation iteration

Testing & Validation
  • Conduct real-world testing to validate mechanical performance
  • Identify failure modes, analyze performance data, and implement improvements

Design for Manufacturability
  • Develop designs that can scale to production
  • Work directly with manufacturing teams and vendors to ensure precision and repeatability

Procurement & Build Support
  • Source materials, components, and vendors
  • Solve supply challenges to maintain build momentum

Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong hands-on mechanical design experience
  • CAD proficiency and understanding of GD&T
  • Ability to work independently in fast-moving engineering environments
  • Strong problem-solving ability and accountability

Preferred Experience
  • Aerospace, UAV, or high-performance mechanical systems
  • Additive manufacturing or rapid prototyping
  • Designing hardware for production environments
